Hope everyone is safe during these blizzards.

We haven't had the snow fall like up north, but it is snowing and been a bitter cold winter. I can't afford to turn the heat on so sit in front of a 8" electric heater to keep warm during the day. At night I burn wood in a little pot belly stove in the kitchen and use a kerosene heater in the hallway to take the chill off. The only time I turn on the heat is when my music students come to the house two afternoons a week.

The thing I would love to win is enough to insulate my house, there is none..nada and to fix my heating system that barely works. I got a home warranty when I bought this place, when I had them come out to look at the heating system they said it was installed incorrectly therefore will not fix it. :cussing: My bills ran so high even keeping the thermostat at 48-50 degrees that I had to turn it off completely. brrrrrrrrrrr.

I am sooooooooo ready for spring!

Have you checked with your state to see what they have available for home improvements and/or energy efficiency home improvements by way of full coverage (if you quality) or partial tax credit?

Checked into the weatherization program and don't qualify because I have to claim my room mate's total income even though he only pays a small portion of the bills. There are tax credits available for home improvements but you have to be able to have the work done before you get the credit.

On top of that, I made under 10K grand last year but have to claim the 20K from the exterior makeover I won last year. Needless to say, had to tap into my IRA account to get by. Health insurance went up too and I already have a $7500 deductible, only keep it so I won't lose the house if something bad happens.

Hard times. So close to being fine though. Need half the students I needed before to get by, once out of debt my living expenses low. I've been teaching 18 yrs, the last 7 yrs on my own. I've received national and international recognition for my art and music in publications, radio play and gallery exhibits. I've been applying for grants. Moved to a new city and with the economy it's slow getting on my feet. I have a good plan just need to hang in there..but today I'm cold :sunny:
