Donating a car

It's time for the car go to, and I want to schedule a pickup soon for a charity donation. What is the procedure? Do I have to find the car's title? I understand that sometimes there's an issue when you donated a car, and it remains in your name and people accrue parking tickets and other annoying stuff after donating.

I was able to do this once, a number of years ago. As I recall, I handed over the title but that was about it. There was never a problem with parking tickets from subsequent owners.

No, a title is a separate document. It will clearly say title on it. If you cannot find it, you can order a duplicate one through your DMV/RMV or your tag office. I believe you will need to produce the title in order to donate the car.

That's a great gesture on your part. It's usually fairly easy to do. :)

There are multiple auto donation charity programs and organizations out there. If you want to ensure that your donation is being used toward the betterment of children and the community at large, educate yourself about car donation programs. When you donate a vehicle (even a junk car) or any other item to the Outreach Center, you're giving an invaluable gift to children in need all across the country. An auto donation can easily be written off on your taxes and we'll even handle all the paperwork you’ll need to donate a car.

The title was missing, and after asking about 20 places, one outfit said they would accept it without a title. Getting it retitled from the DMV would have cost more than the value of the car, and taken at least a week.

The charity came today, and I apparently made a donation to a scholarship fund. It was supposed to be a veteran's foundation. Oh, whatever! I'm so glad they came. I had to wait all day for the truck to come.

Thats a great thing you did! I'm sure it helped someone who needed it. :sunny:
