Just received notification that I won from Bassett's furniture giveaway!

Congratulations! On behalf of Bassett Furniture, we’re pleased to inform you that you are the potential Daily Prize winner of an Upholstered Queen Bed (only includes head and foot board) having an ARV of $5,099.00.

When I entered that one, I didnt notice that the prize for the bed only included the head and foot board, not the frame and mattress). I actually asked them if they would consider issuing me a check for a reduced ARV in place of the prize so I didnt have to come up with the money for taxes AND a frame and mattress, but they were not willing to do that. The good news is that if I choose a bed that is less than the ARV they named, I will only have to pay taxes on that. I hated to turn it down since I havent won something in so long. So I guess my daughter is getting a new bed :)

I guess you really have to read the rules. These sweeps are only designed to get your money in another way. Good negotiating!! Congrats!
 
Congratulations on your win and on breaking the dry spell!

It is expensive, but I guess that means you can choose a really nice head and foot board. Good that you checked your options and can plan for a reasonable amount when you consider taxes. I'm sure you will keep your paperwork and document everything.

Congratulations!! From what I understand about prizes (though I've never won anything that big), if you sell them, then you only have to pay taxes on the selling price. Probably have to keep records though.
