State officials: Galveston getting inundated from all sides

Galveston County is experiencing widespread damage, according to initial reports from the state Emergency Operations Center in Austin. The east and west ends of Galveston Island are under water, and water is pouring over the seawall. Power and utilities are out. There are multiple fires; rain is helping extinguishing some.

Galveston County's Emergency Operations Center is on backup power. The first floor, ER and operating rooms at the University of Texas Medical Branch are flooded. The hospital was evacuated Thursday. The Kemah Boardwalk is inundated.

Infrastructure is heavily damaged, although the condition of area refineries is still unknown. Land phone lines and radio communication is stable, but cell phone service is intermitent.

I thought I would start a thread for Galveston Everyone please pray for these people. They could sure use our prayers.

Thanks, Cin. I have family in that area. My Mom and her husband just built a new house on Galveston Island last year. She evacuated to Fredricksburg on Thursday morning and I dread for her to go back and see the ruin. She is planning on heading back Monday or Tuesday if it is safe. I also have an aunt in the Houston area that I have not heard from. I am not sure if she got hit with anything. Then I have another Aunt and Uncle in Port Arthur. They got a call on Friday at 4am telling them they had to get out. I do not know where they are. They were gonna drive until they found an available hotel that was out of harm's way. They are not in the best of health and I worry about them.

I'm praying they are all going to be fine and I hope their home is ok.

Thanks, Cin. I did hear from my mom today. She is still waiting for them to let everyone back on the island. She said my relatives in Abbeville, LA. are having a bad time too. I know that is your part of the country. One them had water up to the window sills and another has five inches of water inside.

Yeah both these storms have created a lot of problems for both states. My family in Louisiana just got power back on yesterday so that was about 2 weeks. Here in Katy some people are still without electricity and a lot of damage all over Houston. I think they may be letting Galveston residents in tomorrow but they have no gas and no electricity I am sure. I just got in touch with my insurance company today. I sure hope things will be ok for all your family. Keep me posted on them.

I also hope this is the last one this year.
