State officials: Galveston getting inundated from all sides
Galveston County is experiencing widespread damage, according to initial reports from the state Emergency Operations Center in Austin. The east and west ends of Galveston Island are under water, and water is pouring over the seawall. Power and utilities are out. There are multiple fires; rain is helping extinguishing some.
Galveston County's Emergency Operations Center is on backup power. The first floor, ER and operating rooms at the University of Texas Medical Branch are flooded. The hospital was evacuated Thursday. The Kemah Boardwalk is inundated.
Infrastructure is heavily damaged, although the condition of area refineries is still unknown. Land phone lines and radio communication is stable, but cell phone service is intermitent.
I thought I would start a thread for Galveston Everyone please pray for these people. They could sure use our prayers.
