Gift Card semi win but....

 Hi ya guys took a bit of a long break of sweeping due to not winning much of anything but now I'm kind of easing my way back into it slowly.

I received a call this afternoon from a live Walmart representative which had a very thick foreign accent and they told me I won a 100 dollar gift card and they gave me a UPS I guess verification # which I jotted down.

But then something fishy alerted me that this could be a scam and I am wondering what you folks think of it???
This live reprsentative told me there was a $1.95 shipping & handling fee to send me the walmart gift card
and then said that fee would be waived since I won the card.
Here comes the tricky part the live representative explained to me that they needed my 14 digit debit bank card # for verification purposes of sorts (of which I have no clue why they needed it) so I politely declined the gift card and politely hung up on this heavy accented rep who had a horrifc time repeating words to me that I just did not understand any of. And rather than sit there and talk back and forth for another 15 mins of not understanding why they need my bank debit card # for verification purposes or not I just didn't think it was worth a gift card to just hand out my debit bank card # out all willy nilly to any old person  Anyway the rep called back again and I repeated that I refuse to give out my private bank card #'s to anyone but they still didn'tunderstand why I refuse a gift card and just giving them MY private info which I refused to and then hung up again.

Is it normal practice when one wins gift cards (which I realize varies from sweepstakes to sweepstakes) to ask for private debit bank card #'s? Why do they need this type of information in the first place anyway? Any thoughts guys???

I'm still trying to remember at this point if I won this gift card from one of those computer surveys I did that one finds at the end of those store receipts or if I entered another type of sweepstakes where a Walmart gift card was one of the prizes.....

Thank you guys for any replies you have towards my question.

This has scam written all over it. NEVER EVER give out any personal info to anyone. Legitimate contests do not require any payment of any sort . If you do win something big you usually are sent an affidavit to fill out, and you still dont pay anything to the sponsor. Glad you had enough common sense to hang up on him. Good luck the real wins will come soon. :sunny:

We constantly get scam calls like this. I'm just surprised a $100.00 gift card was all they were claiming you won! If we're bored, we'll play around with them. It's funny how they can maintain their composure and continue on in all seriousness. You can laugh at them, scream at them, whatever. They'll act like they don't hear you.

Tearbear & Lidarkside, what's funny is that the live rep gave me a UPS package #. I did feel this smelled like a scam but playing devil's advocate here what if I do get this $100 gift card from UPS/Fed Ex with the correct package # then what? I mean a $100 is nothing to sniff at. And I have never won a gift card with this much of an amount....anymore thoughts???

still refuse tot give out my bank card # that's for sure.

I have had hundreds of scam phone calls and emails give me tracking numbers. A sponsor will never ever ask you for your bank card number.

NO legitimate win asks for that sort of info!!!!!! for something small like a 100 bucks- they just mail it to you. I have won twice now- $100 gifts cards and they don't even send them certified- just regular mail. They don't ask for info.

DO NOT GET SUCKERED IN by these people.

destiny907 I totally agree with your posts, but sadly I received nothing in the mail as of yet and I feel as though this was cruel hoax   but that's life.

but I do remember awhile back filling out tons of surveys to have my name entered in several hundred dollar wlamrt gift cards that is for sure...which is why this is perplexing me

I know I should let it go...your all right *sigh* my first win of anything in 3 years...

NEVER EVER EVER GIVE OUT ANY INFO LIKE THAT OVER THE PHONE EVER. SCAM ALL THE WAY AND THATS WHY THEY KEEP CALLING U BACK ... they now r really trying to convince u and they will pretend to not understand the "NO" from you. Good looking out and thanks for posting it as some new persons might not know that. Like those emails for millions of $ in foreign lottery wins.... USA BANS foreign lottery...it is always fraud...along w/all those nigerian oil inheritances... Otherwise I would be a gazillionaire by now, I rec'v so many of them on my hotmail acct. :cussing:
