I have been using Yahoo! email for years for sweeping, and now I have a Gmail address, but don't understand how it works. For random emails I receive with important info, I'd like a folder to put them, but don't see how to create a folder. It has an option where you make a filter, but I get all kinds of emails and don't want to name a separate filter for all of them. Then if you make a filter, where do the mails go?

How can I simplify this? It's every confusing.

I don't know if this is the correct way to make folders, but it works for me.

To make folders, just click on Settings, Labels, Name your new label, click "Create"

Whenever you have an email you want to move to that folder, click the box of the message you want to move, then click on the drop down menu "More Actions" and highlight the folder you want to move it to....next to your message will say the name of the folder

To find the folder, look on the left hand side and you will see a box named: labels
