Durian is better, once you get past the smell
Have never had dragonfruit, but love the description and will definitely be looking for some.

I don't think the smell is that bad, but then I grew up eating chitin's.
In case anybody is wondering, Durian has a texture very much like avocado, and a wonderful rich flavor. It just smells....kind of, I dunno, cheesy? :scratch:
DH is going to Costa Rica so I've been hearing about it....a lot. :laughing:
Pmeek, if you're in Portland, City Market usually has Dragonfruit, and they do get in Durian. You might want to cut the Durian on the porch, though. If you experience a sort of flushed, happy feeling while eating it that is a result of the amino acids the fruit contains. :sunny:
:sunny: Don't think I will be driving the 4 and a half hours to Portland anytime soon, but will be looking in the farmers market when we go to Mexico in October. Will also start checking with the local produce managers. Will also be checking on the durian. I love trying new foods.

LOL! They make it look like a prickly hand gernade :laughing: The same amino acids that both cause it to taste so good and have happy neuro effects, are the ones that make it smell...cheesy. Or like sweat socs. Really good Parmesan cheese has crystals of these same acids in it. I know too much food trivia :crazytongue:
