HELP HELP

I received a tax paper that listed i$3,000 in other income. I know I have not received anything worth that or the money. The payers name is THESTREET.COM. It is located in New York. Not sure what to do, I took it to my tax place and they said I have to file a amendment which will cost $50. I was thinking maybe I won something and didnt get it, since I moved to my new place in June 08. I just hate to file somthing and might have to pay when I didnt get anything
 
should only file on the amount you received or earned in the year that it was received, so if you received nothing in 2008 no taxes do if you receive in 2009 then that tax form is where it will be added to. Make sure your tax adviser knows you have not received anything. another problem with what you have is most send out a form 1099 so this sounds unusual so be careful with this as I am not sure what you have and whether it is legit or not?

Was it a 1099? Or a W-2/W-4 (I always forget which one it is :scratch:) Did you get it recently? All of the 1099s, W-2/W-4s, bank statments that list interest, brokerage statements, etc. (tax records) were supposed to be mailed out as of January 31, 2009 for 2008.

I would go to http://www.irs.gov/, the IRS web site, first.

I still have to file our income tax - I take it to a CPA. Costs money, but it's worth it to stay out of trouble...

:sunny: What a surprise that must have been. Write back to them with the address they have given you, it should be on the 1099 (or on the envelope) and ask them what it was for. They do run a Virtual Stock Portfolio on that site where you can win prizes. You really need to find out. Don't you wonder how they got your social security number, name and address if you didn't give it to them?

*cough* somebody here who does not post wins has won four or five of the blasted things.....its easy to forget after the first three :laughing: (NOT ME she says to stalker person-last TV I won was a 13 in LCD)
