How do you know when it's a scam? I just rec'd an email that I won 1st prize in the Indianapolis 500 sweeps. The affidavit requires my info notarized which includes my SSN. Is this normal?

One way to tell if a win is a REAL win is .... did you enter the sweepstakes? You didn't win if you didn't enter. Also, yes if the prize is of high enough value the SS# on a notarized affy is normal. Who did the email come from about your Indy win? If it was from a foreign country it is probably not a win, but if it is from eprize or another known agency it is probably real.

Sometimes if I am skeptical about an email I will open by going through Properties. This way you can read it without opening the email.

If you right click on the email, then click on Properities in the pop-up box, click on Message - you can read it safely (as least I think it's safe), but this way the email is not opened and it shows the email address.
