I am a big idiot. Magazine scam

So a really nice guy came to my house today. Was selling magazines to get points to travel or something. He was really nice, and I really wanted to help him. Well I decided to buy a magazine, thought it might be like $20 or something. Well come to find out when I was about to write the check, it would be $62. Thats $47 for 2 year subscription to nickelodeon magazine, and $15 processing service.
Well I really didn't want to spend that much. But I hate having to tell someone no. And I really wanted to help him earn his points.
Well later I was talking to my mom and husband about it. they couldn't believe I did that. Well I decided I wanted to cancel it. So I looked on the reciept what you had to do. I have to send the cancel letter back to them in 3 days. In order for it to cancel. Well how long will it take for a letter to get from fl to texas? More then 3 right?
Well I then decided to look online. Found a huge bunch of complaints about this company, said they were a scam, and people never got thier magazines or thier money back.

This is the name of it. Points across america.

So I put a cancel on my check, through my bank account. And will mail that cancel thing tommorrow.
What else should I do? I am so gullible and embarrassed. My husband was just whining about not having $70 because of being off for thanksgiving, and I go spend $62 on magazines. Especially ones that will never come. I'm so retarded. ughh

anyone else do something like this?

you are not an idiot dear. a very sweet close friend of mine fell prey to this scam. a girl came to her and her hubbys house selling magazines. she said she was pregnant and was trying to earn money to raise her child etc. my friend has a son and loves kids so she felt bad for this girl and bought 100 bucks worth of magazines. they wrote a check and a month later found out it was bogus. you are not alone. make sure you let your neighbors know and your friends. these scammers pretty much tend to pick areas with houses that are close together and go door to door. you are probly not the only one this happened to. hugs for the trouble you endured  and glad to know things got fixed ok.

"I'm paying my way through college by scholarships I earn by selling encyclopedias. Can we do lunch this week and discuss the benefits of a full 345 volume set (in genuine leather quality faux bindings at a mere $69.99 per volume, plus fees ...) which will enrich your life and be a treasured keepsake you can hand down to your children for many generations of enjoyment?" Come on ... this is your friend Loren ... you can trust me!

Don't worry you're not the first and won't be the last ... but pity that poor guy when he finds out that, after 60 days of tromping through the snow, he's gonna get stiffed by these guys.

I hear that even Napolean got scammed by a time-share presentation for a villa on the wonderful Isle of Elba!

Tiff, I had one of these guys try this on me in Wal Marts parking lot...but he made a couple of mistakes with me. First, I had a migraine(strike one), second, I was on my period (big strike two), and third, he told me that he had just talk to my sister and she told him to come and talk to me that I would help him out...well, I knew that Caitlyn had just went in and I watched her go...I knew he didn't talk to her or anyone else because I saw him standing there so he lied to me (strike three, your out!) I told him that I was sorry and that there wasn't anyway that I could help him at the moment ~ sorry! He went on trying to scam the next car. I know he thought I was an easy target, but he hit me on a day that I had severe anger issues and he was lucky to walk away with his eyes still in his head...

A few years ago when I was single and living alone a young man and a young woman came by for the same thing. I actually bought a magazine to get them to go away...and the man came knocking at my door a few hours later asking me if I wanted to hang out. I canceled my check as well....

Now I see them coming - tell them their dedication is wonderful, thanks but no thanks and shut the door.
