I highly recommend the after-sun stuff that has the lidocaine and aloe vera in it for nasty scrapes, (after you clean it out well), it takes a lot of the soreness out of it and the aloe helps it heal quick. Plus if you put on a good coating and let it dry, it works almost like a bandaid. Noxzema is a good soother too, though I use that more for chafing and burns, including sunburn. Plus, you can usually find a generic of Noxzema at the dollar store that works just as well as name brand. Yes, I am that much of a klutz that I have all kinds of home first aid tricks!
My best klutz moment:
I was carrying one of my cats around, he likes to look out the window with me. I went to turn around to set him down, lost my balance a bit, and bumped hard into a shelf that has these glass antique penny candy jars on it. What a racket!! Well, it spooked the cat so bad that he reached up and sunk a claw into my ear, right into that ridge that is in the middle of your ear. He is a big cat, a 16 pound black Persian, and he was literally HANGING off my ear by that one claw, and was STUCK. No one else was home to help me, and it took awhile to extract the cat from my ear, and to my horror I found blood pouring down my neck. The reason why he was stuck was that the claw had sunk into the cartilage!! I literally had this split open flap there!!
They couldn't stitch it, they had to use surgical glue and steri-strips to cobble my ear back together after the bleeding finally stopped. Lucky for me I didn't get an infection!! Needless to say I don't pick my cats up near that shelf anymore!!
