Lack of good sweeps

I was really behind on my sweeping, a couple of months actually. So yesterday I started going through them. out of the roughly 2000 I looked at I only entered around 200. And im not a picky sweeper. I like winning DVDs and other small prizes. But the big prizes or sweeps with lots of prizes are nice.

I still have a bunch more to look at of course but I was really disappointed in the quality of sweeps. Lots of really small prizes, or really limited big prizes. Even a lot of the Grand prizes weren't really all that great.

Is it just me? Is it the economy?

I have a lot of big sweepstakes saved. I've also noticed that there are more and more sweepstakes for cars than there were a couple of years ago. There also seems to be much more big money sweeps than there used to be. In the over ten years I've been online sweeping, there are more and more sweepstakes and bigger and better prizes through the years. My saved sweeps have been steadily increasing. There were much more slim pickin's when I started and far fewer wins.

I agree that the sweeps are not very good lately...mainly blog contests for itsy bitsy prizes. I really don't like entering the blog contests...they always require some sort of comment, and often, one must visit the website of the prize being offered and hunt something up and comment on that. Too time consuming, especially when the blog is daily entry as well. The number and quality of the "real" sweeps have declined dramatically.

I think way too much time is being spent on posting blog sweeps. One day last week there was over 160 of them. Yes, some people like them, but I don't have the time to spend entering them. I know people will say they don't take that long, but I work and this is my hobby. I don't want to have to jump through hoops to win a can of pledge or a candle or one of the 6000 baby onesies.

I am really glad SA has blogs in a separate category. I can't imagine having to wade through all of those blogs. I just think that listing the blogs is so much easier that they are the ones getting posted and that we are missing out on some great traditional sweeps. I don't blame the editors. Heck, I blame myself for not helping more. But, I still wish the blogs would go away so that the focus could be put on real sweeps, with real rules and let's face it, real prizes. Let's be honest, 85% of the blog sweeps are directed towards pregnant woman or people with young children. For the 15% I might be interested in, it's not worth my time to wade through them.

The other thing is you are giving your personal information to total strangers who could be real nut cases. I honestly don't know how these things are allowed to continue as none of them comply with any state rules. I am hopeful that someday soon the states will make things very difficult for these blog sweeps.

Before anyone jumps on me for saying that, I work full time, own my own businesses and still volunteer here and in my community. I have a full plate and do not want a job as an editor! This is my opinion of blog sweeps. I respect the opinion of those that like them and wish you all the luck. To me, I will not waste my time.

There have been several articles in Promo about how the economy is impacting companies promotional budgets. I can't link to the most recent one yet but the overall consensus was that we would see more sweeps with many low value prizes instead of high ticket ones. Which is fine by me, as long as "low value" does not mean "wallpaper" :)

I guess I need to hang out with LIDARKSIDE and see where all these "bigger and better" sweepstakes are hiding. I'm with the rest of you guys though - I don't think there are as many good sweeps as there used to be. I suppose it's okay with me though, after getting NAILED on my income taxes this year due to my big wins; I have already gone through my list and removed anything that I wouldn't want bad enough to pay taxes on!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe, try checking for sweepstakes by prize category instead. In these times, companies are more apt to compete for the consumer's business. There's no getting around having to buy necessities, and they'll do what it takes to get the consumer to buy from them.

I submit sweepstakes by pm, like "Kozy Shack" and "Wendy's", and I see some really great prizes in a lot of them.

Ok. I guess it isnt just me then. The kozy sweep is alright but its one prize and the wendys.. what a mess that thing is. I dont enter it because its so poorly run. :nono: great prizes sure but I havent heard of any winners from the last time they tried this.

All in all the prizes are small or very limited. I hope things pick up soon.

It seems (to me at least) that the best prizes are in the daily listings.

When I first started this sweeping thing, I entered them everyday. I stuck with it for about 3 months, then decided that I just cannot devote the amount of time it takes to enter 100+ dailies, 60+ instants and whatever one-entry sweeps happened to interest me every single day. I have cut out the dailies and just concentrate on the instants and entered more one-entry sweeps (since they are the only ones that I win anyway!)

I can afford to be less picky this way... it takes me a few seconds to enter a one-entry and if I only win a tube of toothpaste, who cares? 5 seconds of my time for one less thing I have to buy at the store is fine by me.

:sunny:

Maybe, it just seems that there are less sweepstakes offering big and numerous prizes, because there are far more sweepstakes than there ever were before that don't all offer more than one or several prizes.

Years ago, there weren't even a fraction of sweepstakes available as there are today. I've seen them steadily grow through the years as have my wins. I've truly been blessed from sweeping.
