I just returned from a 4-day trip to Sandusky, Ohio where we were guests of the K&N Filters company. They make automotive filters, and they ran a contest that I entered. I was one of 8 semi-finalists. All the semi-finalists were flown to Sandusky, Ohio (with their guests), put up at the Kalahari Resort there (a wonderful place for families to vacation -- a huge in-door water park for the kids), and treated like royalty at the National Hot Road Association drag races at Summit race track for 3 days. They really made us all feel special. They made one of us feel REALLY special -- we were each matched with a driver in the "Horsepower Challenge" races and the person who had been matched with the winning driver won a beautiful Pontiac G6 Coupe!
I didn't get my hopes up -- after all, the odds were 7 to 1 against me winning the car. But when we did a random drawing to select the driver with whom we would be paired and I drew the driver that several drag race afficianados had told me was a favorite, I did start to dream about driving that Pontiac. Unfortunately for me (and fortunately for another finalist), my driver was slow off the line and didn't win, so the car was not mine. But the trip itself was truly special and we really enjoyed it.
And when I returned home this afternoon, I found an email announcing that I had won a Microsoft prize consisting of a 10-page professional web site build and maintenance for one year, an ASUS laptop computer worth about $2,000, and $1,000 in cash. Yippeee!!! It's not a Pontiac, but it will do as a consolation prize.
