Magazine Sweeps - Caution

I have been asked to remind everyone to be careful when entering magazine sweeps. The sponsors keep changing the entry forms, so you need to read the form carefully before you submit it. It is very easy to sign up for a subscription by accident.

There are alternate links for "no subscription" versions of the entry form. When we try to include these links instead, they usually revert to the "subscription" version when you click them.

What to do if you get a magazine subscription that you don't want:

First of all, don't worry. You can cancel the subscription and owe nothing. If you get a "thanks for your subscription" email, click on the My Account link in that email and tell it you want to cancel the subscription. This is the fastest way to stop it. You can also go back to the magazine's website and access your account that way. Or you can call their customer service number and tell them to cancel. If you get a bill in the mail, just write CANCEL across the front of it and send it back. No matter how you do it, your subscription will be cancelled and you won't anything.

Will certainly remember that, thanks.

You would figure they would separate the sweepstakes form from the subscribe form because of the false leads not doing so generates. If I was selling magazines I would only want to send out bills to people that truely wanted my magazine opposed to people who forgot or missed unchecking a box.

I have done this so many times. It really gets old but they usually have really good prizes. Sometimes they won't let you cancel right away though. You have to wait a week for it to be processed, by then I usually forget. :cussing:

I think they know many will be canceled, but I bet many of the ones sent out are extras they did not sell that month, and are going to be trashed anyway. They probably also get some advantage in selling advertising to be able to quote a larger number of subscriptions (so what if 20% were only for a month).

I was just noticing this has been a hot topic as of lately, all of a sudden I don't feel so singled out when I get one.

hmmm - possible ACORN link? lol!!!

Thanks for the great advice. I'm new to this so I took it personal when I opened my mailbox last week and had not one but two issues of a popular teen magazine with my name on them. Needless to say, I'm not even close to being a teenager nor do I have any kids in my home. A bill hasn't arrived yet but when it does I'll just write CANCEL and send it back. Thanks!

I just did it twice yesterday  In too much of a hurry and I guess poor eyesight doesn't help
