These sweeps are really bothering me. I (thankfully) still have a mother who is a wonderful woman. But I can't enter these because it makes me stop and think about all the people out there whose mothers are no longer with us or who didn't have one to begin with. Does it bother anyone else? I just enter for sweeps where I want or need the prize. I don't worry about the 'theme' of the sweep.

Not at all. My mother and I don't have that kind of mushy relationship where I could bring myself to write something up like that on her, and my husband lost his parents one and a half years apart when he was 11 and 12. There are so many themed sweepstakes out there involving events, people, etc., but not everything is for everyone. You enter the sweepstakes that are the best fitted for you!
