Need your some suggestions/what do you think??

We have been renting our house for 3 years now. About the 2nd year we started going through the foster care process. Well when they got to the home inspection they found lead paint on the outside of the windows, and a little on the cabinets. I asked the landlord to do a lead grant so we could get it removed. Etc. etc. Its been about a year. She kept giving us the run around. Oh I called, they still haven't called back, etc.

Well I have been reading online. It says all landlords must tell us before renting/buying the house that thier is lead paint there. And if there is children under 6 years old, then they must fix it. We have a 4 yearold.
What do you guys think? Sopposidly this is a law. Can the landlord get introuble for not telling us? Or not fixing it? Or me showing this to her, will that finally make her fix it? :scratch:
 
Tiff, check your local phone book (front section) for legal aid or tenants' advocates. They will know the laws for your state and how best to handle your situation. :)

Ok cool. I really don't want to get her introuble. I just want her to fix it.
 
:wave: One thing for sure is that you should be concerned about your daughter.
Leaded house dust that is inhaled even in the smallest amounts is just as lethal as that which is ingested. One paint chip the size of a thumbnail, ingested by a young child, can cause permanent brain damage.
Dr. John Rosen, a pediatrician responsible for treating lead poisoned children at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, states: "Lead at remarkably low concentrations has the unique capability of robbing kids of such skills as reading, writing, concentration and abstract thinking. The set of things that are required for academic success and employment success can be lost forever, and all of that comes at a remarkable societal cost."

Yea Kaileys gotten lead tests. And didn't have any in her system. So thats good. She doesn't go near the outside windows, so thats why she doesn't have any I guess?
 
My roommate has lead in his system from a job he used to do (when he had to hang upside down over this big pool of heavy water replacing the photosensitive image detecting element arrays he used to hold the lead solder in his mouth-bad idea!) That stuff is evil.
 
After what you've told us about your landlord, I would be on her butt to fix it!! She likes to paint if I remember correctly, so go get her Tiff! :laughing:

:laughing: I'm going to print the stuff off that I found on the internet about it, and write her a letter. If that doesn't do anything, then I will meet with her face to face. She really doesn't like me. But she loves my husband. She thinks hes just amazing and so hard working. :rolling eyes: So I want Rocky to talk to her about it. But he says he won't, he says shes so nice about stuff, she dropped are rent to 785 instead of 795. And she lets him mow her lawn for money.
 
Well ... i remember a post where she was being a bit of a "meanie" to you for not keeping the place clean enough. Perhaps she KNOWS she is in violation of rental laws. Many states have regulations about renting out rentals with lead based paints.

If you live in one of those states, once she is aware of the problem, she is under a legal obligation to fix it. I know you don't want to be "mean" or anything, but it is a health issue for children.
 
I've talked to a few people that live around me, they all said that there is a law. I've talked to the landlord agian. She said she will look into it.

I think as long as none of us go up to the windows, and chew the paint off, or mess with it. We are fine. Just no fostering or adopting, until we move.
