Paypal email scam???

I received an email from Paypal saying my account needed to be updated or it would be suspended. Now, as far as I know, I don't have a Paypal account, meaning unless I unknowingly registered when registering for a sweeps. I obviously am not clicking on to open it.

Has anyone else received an email like that?

I have gotten a few of those, and yes, it's a fake. I do have a paypal account, but thankfully just closed out of that fake email, opened paypal separately, and checked it out from there.

Definitely don't click on it.

I get at least one of those each week. I usually forward them to [email protected]. I never click on a link in the email. I get fake ones from banks sometimes too saying my credit card account is suspended for something. Even if there is enough info in the email to seem like it is real (and it never is) if I want to check it I go to the bank website other than thru the link in the email and check it out. I get emails saying my account is suspended from banks I don't have a credit card or account of any kind with so I ignore them all.

Newbie Paypal Horror Story.....when I was new to the Internet, Ebay and Paypal, I did click on one of those Paypal phishing emails....no one ever warned me way back then....and sure enough...I didn't even know it until my bank statement came and said I was overdrawn by $400! (why they never notified me I could not figure as I had never overdrawn my bank acct. before this) Of course I had to close down that bank account and start anew.......even had the FBI call me but I had already deleted the fake email so I could not forward it to them as they had hoped. He did tell me that they caught the guy in Canada that had used mine, and others, stolen acct. numbers.
Now I always do what judge does...send them on to [email protected]fully to prevent someone else from getting scammed....and now check my bank accts. online on a regular basis.

Another one to watch out for - I recently got a note that said someone had a question regarding my ebay auction item and I should click the link to answer it. It was very convincing with the right graphics, no typos, nothing to suggest it was a fake. But it was. When I logged into ebay to investigate, there were no messages waiting for me.

I never trust any emails from either paypal or ebay. If you got a note from either one, go directly to that site and log into your account. Never click on the email links. The phishing folks are way too good at what they do.

That is true....BUT....one time I did get a question about an item I was supposedly selling....an ATV...and a very nice one at that-at least from the pictures....I had never sold anything on Ebay so the red flag was up.... when I logged on to Ebay to check it out someone WAS using my user name-and my 100% Positive Feedback record!!! Don't know how they did it as there didn't seem to be any other access into my account, according to Ebay, who canceled the sale IMMEDIATELY after I frantically called them.
So, was greatfull for that warning question. Now I always check those kinds of emails out by checking the Ebay listing on the their website but NEVER click on them. Hasn't happened again since.

I once had my ebay identity stolen also, I don't remember if I clicked on one of those "I have a question" emails or not. The best way to check an ebay, paypal or bank account is to open a new browser and go directly to the website. Do not ever access your accounts through an email link.
