Paypal question - is this a scam?

I received an email from Paypal saying someone tried to access my credit card on the account, open and download a form to fill out to confirm I am the authorized user. Signed Paypal Account Review Dept.

However, I don't remember ever opening a Paypal account - has anyone received this notice before? Is it legit and I just don't remember opening the account? The email is from [email protected] and is in English - no grammer issues.

Never mind - a bit of sleuthing and it is a scam, fortuntately I opened the email through Properties.

Paypal doesn't send this type of notifications and the email is routed back to Russia. Maybe the Rooskies should give the Nigerians grammer lessons.

Glad you found out it was a scam before anything bad happened! I sell a lot of stuff on ebay and use pay pal alot and they will never send you an email like that and ask that you click on a link or anything. I have gotten emails like that before too. Big time scam.

I use Paypal and the one time they sent me an email about account security, there was no attachment. Just instructions to go to the site, reset my password and security questions and then upload some sort of proof of my identity (like a utility bill). Then someone from Paypal called me that same day to say that I had taken care of the security issues and my account was all good. Very professional and secure.

Last week I got an email from Paypal asking me down load a form and update my message. I called paypal and they said thier was not request from them, the customer service rep had me email the original paypal request with the down load.

I forward ALL paypal and ebay emails to:

[email protected] or [email protected]

99% are phishing emails and they thank me for alerting them.

I also NEVER open email I'm unsure of - I right click it and check properties.

FYI, if you have the preview pane on in Outlook, or Outlook Express, you DON'T have to open the email to get infected - so you need to close that ASAP.
Click on View, then Layout. UNcheck the preview pane box and hit OK (if you hit apply, you will still have to hit OK)

Thanks Amy - I opened by right clicking on Properties. I don't have the windowpane setup through View.

Glad to know venice - I never know what is common knowledge since I immersed myself for 1 1/2 years at G4TV's forum learning how to de-cootify my comp - DS was a teen then
