Is it true that an Oregon man named Thomas Beatie is the world's first pregnant man? The answer may boil down to semantics.
Mr. Beatie -- formerly Ms. Lagondino -- is a transgender person, born female, who had his outward features medically altered to achieve a more masculine appearance but kept his reproductive organs intact. He claims he became pregnant five months ago via artificial insemination. Some folks have expressed skepticism, and even one of Beatie's own neighbors in Bend, Oregon has been quoted as saying he suspects the pregnancy is a hoax. According to an obstetrician interviewed on "Good Morning America," however, transgender males can indeed become pregnant. Word has it Mr. Beatie will reveal ultrasound pictures on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Thursday, April 3 to prove he really is having a baby (see preview).
In 2000, as you may recall, artist Lee Mingwei laid claim to being the world's first pregnant man. It -- his claim, I mean -- proved to be illegitimate.

That's for sure :laughing: It just cracks me up that they will say a man having a baby.

I saw this on the news. And at first I was shocked because this person really does look like a man. I was thinking to myself. Well does he get disney world? Because I heard a long time ago, the first pregnant man will get some of disneys property. lol I don't know where I heard that though
Well anyways, then I watched the program, and saw that he was born a women, etc etc. Which I think is so stupid. This person is indeed a women, therefore can get pregnant. So this is not a big deal. It just makes them look stupid. And kind of like a freak. There is alot of people that don't agree with transgender people. So for them to air it out like that, is just waiting for people to disagree. They even said some of the family members dont think its right.
I have alot of personal thoughts on this. Like the fact that they said it could be harmful for him/her to have this baby. I think maybe its selfish for people to risk thier lives to have "birth" children. When there is children all over the world that need homes. And they are even letting gay people adopt in some cities. So I don't think it would have been a problem for them.
I really don't want to offend anyone. This topic just got me really steamed. Its like false advertising. This is not a man. So stop saying its a man. grrrr.
on the up side, if a man ever could become pregnant, I might volunteer my husband. ha jk. He couldn't handle it. :crazytongue:

Did you see the pictures of him/her/it before she became a he?? She was beautiful! She was a beauty pagent winner and really was a pretty girl.
I had Oprah on for a few minutes...did I hear right that him/her had a baby before he/she became a he? I thought that I heard them say that she had a baby before and that they still call her Mom/Tracey??? Ashelyn was inside at the time and I didn't really want her watching this right now and asking a bunch of questions when they were talking about the breast removal and homones to make a penis grow...so I missed that part!

Yea I heard they had another child, but i dont know which one had it.
Sorta...he said that they introduced the hormones that would have been indroduced to make him a boy when he was developing as a embro...so it isn't like most people would think of. Don't want to get into a lot of detail...which they didn't on the show anyway, but I am sure you can probably find something online or in this weeks People magazine!

Discovery Health Channel runs a lot of shows on transgendered people. I'm sure they have more info online for anyone who wants to read up on this stuff.
In brief, some people claim that they have always felt that they were born into the wrong gender. People who make the change do so at different levels. Some never go beyond dressing for the new role. Others undergo extensive surgery and hormone treatments. A person who has chosen this path must take the hormone shots for the rest of his or her life. Their body will continue to make hormones to match their birth organs so they need the hormone shots to maintain their new gender.
The 'pregnant man' is biologically a female who has taken steps towards assuming a male appearance and living as a man.
People in these shows always say how much they regret that their friends and family are caught in the ripple effect of their decision to change genders.
I'm sure it is a great relief for someone to finally feel comfortable in their own skin. For the rest of us, it all seems kinda weird.
