REGARDING THE SECTIONS FOR FREEBIES, OFFERS, COUPONS, ETC.

Is it possible to have the threads of expired freebies, offers, coupons, etc., deleted once the deals/offers are expired; because offers that are still good are continuously being pushed back further and further, and many people do not venture past the first page or two.

Some issues with that here....

First, when a deal is JUST expired, I like to see the thread still. If I've seen the same freebie on multiple boards and haven't tried yet, if someone posts that the deal is now dead/out of stock, I know not to try it. Of course, someone needs to post that, but sometimes people do that for newer deals. I know I do if/when I haven't requested something yet.

Secondly, sometimes people post that they received a freebie. If you're watching a thread for a freebie you requested, you'll be notified that you should be watching for your own mail. Of course, you have to try to find the old thread...

Lastly, typically once I post a new freebie, or request a freebie, I don't go back to the thread, except for the reasons above. I tend to spend my time finding more freebies, not finding out when an old freebie is well old/gone.

There was a poll in the freebie forum about this. People have different opinions on this. Auto killing of threads was just one option. Changing titles was another. Closing threads a third. But closing doesn't permit comments after the freebie is no longer available.

Yes, things scroll to quickly off the page. You can also ignore the forum and just go for freebies through the sweeps-like categories.

What about those other than freebies? I've been removing all of my posted offers that expired. Also, if someone wanted to make comments over something expired, they could also just start a new thread. A separate sub-category for grocery coupons also might work since those are usually active for a long time but quickly disappear.

There already is a separate forum for grocery coupons. (Bargains,Rewards,Coupons)

How frequently do you check your threads for dead deals? I went back and checked some of your postings in that forum and found some that are dead.

How much time do you spend checking if posted deals are dead? Personally, I'd rather spend the time finding new deals.

Perhaps creating several sub-forums like what was done in Trading might be a good option. That way each category would have its own first page. One of those sub-forums could even be called Expired.

I'm not saying that deleting the threads absolutely shouldn't happen. There just isn't a way to automate the process that can happen to do it.

I don't look for deals. I only post what comes into my email. I check all my posts except for the single printable grocery coupons which I don't know the expiration date, usually, unless I print it up. I know about the stickied thread for printable coupons, but that seems to be more for actual websites like SmartSource, etc.

Well, it was just a suggestion.

I wasn't talking about any stickied threads, I meant a whole forum: http://www.sweepsadvantage.com/smf/index.php/board,15.0.html

If the subcategory thing sounds good to folks, I came up with a set of possible categories:

Clothing
Entertainment
Food
Beauty / Healthcare
Household Products
Pets
Software & Technology
Expired

Did I miss any big categories? The main/existing one would still exist as a catchall for things like the Wal-Mart thread. Open to better names, too. Just want to present a more complete suggestion to Ken. Of course, SA Freebies listings already has its own set of categories. 17 categories seemed a bit much though, and several of those didn't seem to be right for the forums.

I tend to post what I myself receive AND those I find elsewhere, when I have time.

Sub-categories sounds good to me. "Printable Grocery Coupons" would be my suggestion for one. Oh, and definitely "Fast Food/Restaurant Coupons". More so, for all those individual "brick" coupons that are on their own webpage.

I just went through and removed the rest of my expired ones. :sleepy:

What are you thinking of for Printable Grocery Coupons?

For instance, I can buy pet food and household products at the grocery store (and elsewhere). Are you suggesting those other two categories shouldn't be there?

I'm not tied to the suggested set of categories I put forth, just trying to figure out how you're trying to classify things.

I kinda think you want to separate out restaurant food from grocery food, or do you really want anything you can buy at grocery store?

"Printable Grocery Coupons" would be for any coupon that you use in grocery stores--food, paper products, pet food, etc. Personally, I wouldn't need for those to be categorized. I would look at all posted grocery coupons anyway.

"Fast Food/Restaurant Coupons" should definitely be in it's own category. I definitely wouldn't want to see those mixed in with grocery coupons. This way if we're going out or want to get some takeout, I could take a looksey in that and check for anything that would interest us.

Another suggestion for a sub-category would be "Department Store Coupons and Online Coupon Codes".

Just my input!

I am pretty open to any positve changes. Defining what those are will be helpful as we have many suggested changes still in queue and I don't want create something that members really didn't want.

I missed the voting too, but I would like to make a suggestion, how about a category for all the "Post a comment' contests.

That's really all I can think of for sub-categories if others were interested:

"Printable Grocery Coupons"
"Printable Fast Food/Restaurant Coupons"
"Printable Department Store Coupons and Online Coupon Codes"
"Printable Rebate Forms"

The rest, bringing attention to sales, bargains, deals, etc., I would just keep as it is now since those are usually short-term.

For me, I'm more interested in finding coupons and coupon codes quickly that I need to shop so I can add them to sale deals for even more savings.

That's just my input, but I don't know how many people are using that section of the forum.

I agree with the above. Subcatagories are a good idea.

Would also like to see people put the exp date in the title if they know it.

Do we want to do this for the forum, directory or both? :)

I can't speak for everyone else, but I never use the directory. I would only use the thread in the forum to look for coupons and deals.

Honestly, I don't think I would like it in the directory. It feels to me like it is getting very choppy in there and another category would make it worse. If you do anything, I think the forum would be a better place.

I was thinking forum personally.

OK, to confirm we are going to create new sub forums under the Bargains,Deals,Coupons forum caled:

"Printable Grocery Coupons"
"Printable Fast Food/Restaurant Coupons"
"Printable Department Store Coupons and Online Coupon Codes"
"Printable Rebate Forms"

Is this correct? If yes I can get this going. Thank you. :)
