School lunches

So I went to kaileys school today. Bought lunch with her. We got the exact same meal. They charged her $1.50. And me $3.00. Because I'm an adult. But we got the exact same thing!!! That makes no sense. I told one of the teachers, and she said, Call this number and complain." The teachers that buy thier lunch have to deal with the exact same thing.

Well besides that I had fun eating lunch with kailey. All the kids were really cute and silly. I looked funny though, I could barely fit my big butt on the little benches. lol.
They served these wierd looking hamburgers, they tasted good, just looked wierd, because the bread was like wheat bread or something. Also they served whole oranges. And none of the kids could peel them. So I peeled a bunch for them. And when I was done, I had a mountain of orange peels on my plate. There was a little girl sitting across from me, and she was done eating her lunch within 5 mins. And she just looked sad, she put her head down. Well I asked her what she ate for lunch. She told me a sandwich. I was like what else? A sandwich. Thats all. Well I gave her half of my orange. She ate that fast. Then Kailey wasn't eating all her hambuger, I asked if she wanted that, but she said no. I was thinking about buying the girl lunch, but then it was almost time to go.

Its sad some kids don't get enough to eat. My daughter ends up giving one of her friends food all the time. We asked her if she wanted to start taking two sandwiches one for her and one for her friend and she said no. I guess she doesn't want to embarrass him. Mine take their lunches expect for Thursday, its hamburger day and they all want to eat the school lunch. I couldn't afford for them to eat at school everyday. Its expensive.

It sounds like you had a nice day with kailey. enjoy it while ya can. Pretty soon she wont want to have anything to do with ya

Sometimes, lunch is the only meal some children get a day. It breaks my heart to see hungry children. I sent my daughter with lunch today, she begged me so I made it last night.

PB&J
carrots w/ranch dressing
1 oatmeal cookie
applesauce
Juice

I also don't agree with a parent having to pay double if they receive the same amount as the children, it makes no sense. I want to go eat with my kids but, they eat at different times so I said I would have to rotate. My son gets to choose 1 of 3 different meals but, my daughter doesn't get to choose.

They do that so the kids can more readily afford to eat. It isn't to punish the adults, but to help the kids. We had it set up in the lunchroom where we could always get food to the kids that were hungry. You could never turn down a hungry kid ~ NEVER. I went up to the lunchroom the other day when Ashelyn was having trouble with her lunch card and they said that they had one kid that was over $300.00 behind but that they would continue to serve the child because it wasn't the childs fault.

Another thing that we did is that if we had food left over we would take it out and give it to the kids at the end of the day that way it wasn't wasted and the kids that were still hungry got the benefit of extra food. We had a wonderful guy over the school that I could also go to that I would make sure to tell if a kid needed 'extra helpings' and we would make sure that it happened one way or the other.

It can be done if the schools are willing to work with the kids. Sometimes money isn't the most important thing and that is one thing that I have to say for our school district ~ in this area they have their hearts in the right place!

I wish the school here did that. No child can charge.. If they dont have any money they give them a cheese sandwich and a milk. nice huh. Also, if you dont pay the book fees, which are extremely high btw, your child wont be able to go on field trips or get their report cards. crazy.
They nickel and dime ya to death here and for people who cant afford it the children suffer. Its wrong.

That is beyond wrong ~ I know that in bigger district it may could bankrupt a district, but there has to be a better solution...that is just terrible!

Man you guys school has goten expensive these days. I never had to pay for all the things you all have to. Shoot maybe you guys should home school. I know it's nice to have time away from the kids though.

Ours does it a tad bit better. PB&J, apple, carrot sticks, and a milk. They can't charge and we found out the hard way. Hubby and I had both thought the other had sent money in for our youngest son's lunch one week, to be put on his books. When youngest went through the line with his plate lunch the cashier told him he couldn't eat plate lunch since he hadn't any money. This witch made him take the plate back to the cooks and tell them he needed the plate lunch for kids with no money. He came home embarrassed and in tears. I don't think I have ever been so pissed off in my life. Ever. To spare my son further embarrassment I let it roll. I make sure I'm the one responsible for doling out lunch money and I've never volunteered as a room mother since. They can bite me.

I think it is just wrong to withhold food no matter what the reason...especially over book fees and stuff that has nothing to do with the lunch program. Kids should be allowed a few charges ~ stuff happens. We have been caught short many times and had to charge lunches. Heck, we were on reduced lunches for a couple of years and did good to pay then!

It is hard to keep everything going for 3 (at the time) and have anything left over at the end of the week.

Wow!! I would be mad too!! They let us pay daily, or put a big amount in her account. I can see some mom forgetting, or thinking they still have money in the account. And the kid not having money that day. That would be horrible.
Some of the lunch ladies are mean too. With an attitude.

I'm glad I don't pay for bussing or I would have had a few words for the crabby bus driver a couple of days ago.

She drops the boy off from across the street at his driveway. She then drives off and drives by our house with youngest still on the bus. I'm standing on our front deck. He's looking at me out of the bus window with a sad face as he goes by LOL I call the school so the secretary can CB in the bus driver and remind her she still has my son on the bus. No biggie. I know with it being the beginning of school the bus drivers are probably still getting the kids and the routes down and they get confused as to who gets dropped off where.

I'm on the phone, listening, as the secretary asks her if she still has my son on the bus. The bus driver replied, "He'll be home shortly" in a snarky attitude kinda way. Our lovely secretary tells me and apologizes for any inconvenience. I tell her not a problem...I just wanted to remind the bus driver in case she forgot because stuff happens.

The bus pulls up and I hear the bus driver kinda get pissy with my son, telling him next time to speak up instead of just sitting there. I wanted to say a few snarky, pissy things myself but I didn't. I just gave her the death glare and watch her close the bus door and drive away.
