Selling 'unwanted' prizes

Am I the only one who tries to do this? I went on a local Facebook buy/sell page and am getting crucified for trying to sell something that I won. I guess my mistake was posting that I got it in a sweepstakes.

Thanks!

Good luck and sweep on!!!

I sell on craigs list but don't tell them I won....There have been times I was asked where I got an item from and I did honestly tell them I won it on a sweeps but they purchased the item without a fuss/I have never sold on facebook....

I've sold many things and have told friends that I won them, but never on a buy/sell page. The only thing that I've noticed was that people want to pay less for the item because it didn't cost me anything.

Yes! I agree! Potential buyers think they deserve a STEEP discount if you've "won" a prize IMO..Prime example was when we tried to sell our big green egg on craigs list. Won it, and In box, never opened or used.... best offer we got was like $200  ((It might of been $400 but what is the difference))...But it retails over $850 I KNOW that, and considering we filled out our tax form too that wouldn't work....SO, I was firm we were not selling it at that price. But, I had to put my foot down lol otherwise we'd probably have no grill right now....Since it'd still never been opened like 2-3 years later.

Best I can tell everyone that wins something, don't expect to sell your "unwanted prizes" really quickly, especially if you are hard up for money don't rely on winning and selling it IMO...I mean even a green egg grill we could not sell, and I consider that a prime-time wanted item, but.... nope!

I guess people just don't have that kinda cash anymore nowadays just lying around for wants?
