Thermostat wars

what do you set your thermostat on in the winter? Its in the 40's here today and I think 65 is just fine. Its a constant battle of the thermostat.. I set it at 65.. someone.. goes and ups it to 68, 69... that's ridiculous. put a sweater on already. I dont think it needs to be that warm in the house. If you are dressed appropriately, pants, socks, sweater.. etc. It doesnt need to be that high.

what temperature do you set yours at? Is 65 to low?

omg tiff.. I started sweating just reading that

I'd rather be hot than cold. Michael lets me set the temp since I'm a bit more sensative than he is about cold. I think we have it set around 75 but we also have 3 fire places in the house.

Dude, as skinny as you are I'd worry about you getting hypothermia in a tepid shower! (don't send David death threats, send him some body fat!!!)
Tiff, have you had your thyroid checked recently? Some meds make you more sensitive to cold as well, as does anemia.

Ha! I did gain weight, you know. At least I don't look like a poster boy for starvation anymore. I really would love to live somewhere really warm. Not Florida -- too many weirdos down there  (wait til Sis reads that one! ha!)

DH's favorite really warm spot is Egypt but somehow I think that might not work out too well. You've tried Hawaii and California already  Other tropical islands?

Not set on anything here. I wish we could use our central heat! The unit that was with this house is an odd one - it's a nice Trane & the AC is full electric, but the heat is natural gas. It's all in one combined unit so we'd have to replace the entire thing, can't just replace the heat portion.

We're in north Alabama, so we don't get quite the severe long-term cold that northerners do, but it still gets durn chilly here throughout the winter!

The gas company here is the biggest rip-off in the world. The first winter we were here, we were using the central heat, but kept the thermostat no higher than 68 -- the gas bill was anywhere from $350 - $500 a month, then on top of that, add the bit of an increase to the power bill since of course the fan part of the system is electric. No way we can afford that. (And no, there was nothing wrong w/ our house or system, had it checked out & we've talked to several neighbors & they get horrendous gas bills as well... so it wasn't just us) It's pathetic - our next door neighbors are an elderly couple - their heat is gas too - they have their bill set up on that "averaging" plan & pay over $200 a month year round to the gas company, just for the few months of using their heat during the winter (they have no other gas usage other than their furnace)

Anyway, so we just can't do that. We have a few of those oil-filled radiant-heat space heaters, we bundle up alot & HATE the winter.... we're hoping to eventually get a heat pump put in, but that's going to take quite a while to save up for.... unless I win a nice chunky cash prize & then that's the first thing on our 'major-item wishlist'! LOL!

Florida, you lucky dog!!! I miss FL so bad....... FL will always be "home" to me....

:sunny: As it doesn't get freezing cold here, we keep ours at 64. I would have it lower buy hubby gets cold. If he goes to bed first, I turn it down to 60 and close the register in my bedroom. I like it cool. I start to work up at sweat at 70.

i keep it at 69 when i'm home..... i'm sooooo cold blooded.... and even that is hard to do.. i like it in the 70's, but fiance doesn't ...

The cold there actually feels colder than the cold here. 50 degrees there feels a lot colder than 50 degrees here. The humidity maybe? luckily it doesnt get that cold very often and when it does it sure doesnt last long. I dont miss FL at all.

Wow -maybe hot flashes???

Funny story - my folks always kept their heater on really, really high (mom has now passed away), but the kids and I would literally sweat at their house. One day I had forgotten that their heater wasn't working and the repair guy was coming. The kids and I pull up in front of the house and see the truck and the kids were hoping it still wasn't fixed, saying it's like a "human death trap in there"....

I literally would be down to my tank top in winter at their house...and if I started cleaning or moving in any way I was in big trouble (that passing out feeling!)

Here in Cali, I usually just turn it on for about 10 minutes in the morning to get the chill out of the air, then we're good for most of the day!

My sister use to walk to school with her hair wet, it woudl be frozen by the time she got there. Now, when its' below 60, she's whining to me. She's always hot but when she gets cold, she's dying.

David has very little body fat on him, so he is the one who runs the theromast. Whatever he wants, he gets.
