SHAWNEE, Kan. (AP) -- A four-month-old boy is dead after squirming out of his mother's arms and falling 15 feet from a staircase at their suburban Kansas City home.

Shawnee police say Julia Saville told them that she was carrying her son Michael downstairs to go to day care Wednesday morning when the child began to squirm and arched his back.

Saville said that she lost her grip on the child, and he fell over the stairway bannister to the hardwood floor below. Police said Saville was holding the baby in one arm and a bottle in the other.

I feel awful for this mother. You know she will blame herself for the rest of her life.

I remember the wiggling that kids can do well, and they can be powerful. You have to pay full attention to them at the moment!! I think that I have probably had my nose broken a couple of times when my kids have bucked back and hit me square on the nose ~ one of the most painful things going!!

What a terrible tragedy for this family! I can't imagine what the Mom is going through!

this is one of those things where training would have helped where learning what you can expect from kids and some of the unexpected, this is a pretty common thing and most people including men have had this happen.

I have had a nose bleed on a couple of occasions. they really do squirm alot and if they cant get lose they will slam into ya. I hope this mother has supportive people in her life that let her know it was an accident and could happen to anyone.

Caitlyn and Travis both were bad about this! Ashelyn was the type that always wanted us to carry her, so I never had to much of a problem with her.
