Vacuum

I'm a young person just starting out and I HAVE to buy a vacuum in the next few days...My carpet is a mess after 3 months of living here!

Anyone have a relatively cheap (proably no more than $100) vacuum to recommend. I don't know why but I feel like (and I've heard) that canister vacuums are better...But correct me if you think I'm wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated...It's hard reading reviews online because they are all mixed but I trust SAers a lot.

:smt006 I'm sure that there are lots of opinions on this one. Having used a vacuum for 50 years and at one time selling them, I can tell you that a canister does not work better. The suction has to go thru all that hose. An upright is better. They have some good choices at Walmart, if you can get one that doesn't use bags it is alot better. As soon as a bag is used one time your suction is reduced. Good Luck!

I am really hard on vacuums. :smt009 I vacuum every day because of the kids and the dog. Anyway, I bought a eureka bagless vacuum at walmart, under 100.00 and it works really good. I havent broke it yet and have had it over a year. Thats a record for me. not kidding. :smt003
