86 days until Black Friday!!!

Got your christmas lists started???

me -----------> :booty" :laughing: :headbang:

you -----------------> :nono: :cussing:

Running away very fast now. :whistle:

I've already gotten some of mine done...and I will stay up all night Thanksgiving and probably finish the rest because of the free shipping and sales like I did last year. I loved it!

O-M-G you are so lucky that I cannot reach through this screen. :cussing: :laughing:

I do have 1 thing in the closet for DD so far, it's some plush pink poodle purse. I got it for her birthday but, it came late so decided to save it.

I think we are only shopping for our children and parents this year and of course our nephew if he comes to live with us. We decided to start a new tradition and bake cookies and treats for the others.

I guess I should have made that more clear ~ I loved shopping online ~ not Christmas! Don't anyone send the men with the little white coats to come and collect me yet...

no way! :nono: I never do the black friday sales. Don't have the right temperament for it. People acting like idiots, pushing and shoving all for a 5.00 toaster. no thank you. :laughing:

No worries here! My husband and I no longer exchange gifts, and we just buy a couple of little things for our children. What could we possibly buy each other? We have everything we could possibly want and need. We'd just be wasting money needlessly. We also don't want our children growing up equating Christmas with "getting". We keep our focus on the whole aspect of what Christmas is really about. We celebrate Advent, St. Nicholas Day, The Twelve Days of Christmas (the coming of the three kings), etc.; and our tree and decorations stay up at least until the actual end of the holidays which is January 6. We also like doing the Angel Tree.

We also like doing the Angel Tree.

Love doing the Angel Tree! Also love putting together the shoe boxes that they send to the kids...I forget the name of that one every year, but I love it. Last year I made a couple of cool boxes and can't wait to make some this year also!

When my two oldest were in elementary school (a private Christian school), they did the shoe boxes. Mostly, everyday essentials and a little something fun for the child. I miss those, and I have plenty of toothpaste and toothbrushes too. I'll have to look into that and see if they do something like that locally. I remember that theirs were sent to other countries around the world where children didn't really have much of anything.

Right! We watched a video of kids actually sharing the toothbrush that was sent, so I sent several so hopefully a family would get enough for each kid to have one. I know all the local churches around here also do the shoeboxes. Last year it was $7.00 for shipping ~ I don't know what it will be this year. I stuffed those little boxes though. My kids LOVE to help with the boxes and Angel Tree every year.

I personally like Black Friday but......I don't go until about 6 or 7am . Me and one of my closest friend started going together a few years ago and last year we added my soon to be daughter-in-law and this year we are adding another friend. We make a day of it and don't rush for those $5 toasters and such . We set a record last year of 15 hrs of shopping on black friday. We have a good time doing it the only problem we encountered last year was we had her uplander filled to the top with bags and packages and barely had room for sitting room! We went to toy's r us last year and there was a line about 2hrs long to check out so we just left and waited until 10 or 11am to go back and by then no lines and they still had most of the things on sale. I am counting down the days!!! :headbang: :crazytongue:

The parish of the school my boys went to took care of all that. They would just ask that each child brought in one box each containing specific items. I just added to it, but I never thought of putting extra toothbrushes in them. That's a good idea. I should check if any of the parishes around here do this. This is when I truly enjoy shopping.

I was a preschool teacher at a church and we also put together the shoe boxes. It's just so great to be able to give what you can to those in need. That really is the spirit of Christmas.

Samaritan's Purse is what it is called. Here is a link ~

They have a listing of drop off points and such on there also, and ideas of what to put in the boxes. They might even have the video...but since I have dial-up I won't be watching it :crazytongue:

Thanks! I am familiar with them, but I guess I'll have to wait a bit. They don't have any locations posted at the moment except for their main headquarters.

You can still check with local schools and churches though and I am sure you will find many doing the boxes. Our Baptist Assoc. collects the whole countywide donation worth and then we have them delivered. We have all faiths, schools, clubs and such come together for this cause. I know last year when I was buying for mine I was in the store with a lady from the nursing home that was sponsoring 10 boxes and a Girl Scout troop that was sponsoring 2 boxes. We had fun picking out our stuff together...

I was going to check with a couple we know that go to the Baptist Church. I figured they were more than likely to do something like this. I highly doubt the church of my denomination does this. They don't do much of anything. Did that give it away!LOL

Oh, I have done the black friday sale a couple years ago. I stood in line from I would say around 9:30 or 10 at night until they opened. Never again! I always said I would just go see what's left after that experience.
