What an awful Valentines Day!

This has really been a bad day (actually since it's past midnight now, technically yesterday was).

Got a call from my newly married son at 7am & he told me his wife's new 2007 Mustang that they had just gotten around Thanksgiving had been stolen out from under their carport! They had broken into his truck, which had his backpack in it. It had his wallet and keys to his wife's car in it.

The police found his car around 9am. They found it on a jack to change the tire but evidently saw the cops coming. The thieves took the car for a joy-ride w/ the top down, did several donuts. It had flats on both sides of the car. They blew one tire and drove on the rim for miles ruining the rim & the bent the axle! :cussing: They also tore up the side of the car. The damage was nearly $10K!

In the trunk the cops found merchandise from the busy evening these creeps had had: 4 guns, 4 or 5 wallets, 20 - 30 DVDs, and 2 birth certificates! So, evidently their motive is partially identity theft. Unfortunately my son's wallet was not recovered so they had his SS# now.

Compared to that this is nothing, but hubby left today for a trip for work that is going to take about 1 1/2 weeks   .

Just as a reminder, locking your vehicles DOESN'T make your valuables safe. Take them inside your house with you. Also, it is recommended you keep your SS# in a safe place - NOT in your wallet. :nono: Also, make a copy of your credit cards that you keep in your wallet (front and back) & keep them locked up somewhere so that if they are stolen you know the credit card numbers & who to contact.

Hope someone else here learns from his mistakes! You never think it'll happen to you, but there are mean people out there everywhere!

Oh that's just awful tlpounds - I had my truck taken [joy riders - drunk sailors :nono:], and DH had his wallet stolen - geez, I had my purse stolen - TWICE!!! :cussing:

Anyway, I know what a violation it is, and how awful they must feel right now!!!

No words of wisdom - you covered that part - just know my heart goes out to them - and to you!!!

Hang in there while your DH is gone - we'll keep you company, OK?

Oh no, I am so sorry. What a horrible day for all of you. I am really glad the car was found before even more damage was done but, really sorry that the car was damaged at all. I hope they find these criminals and lock them up.

Keeping your dh in my thoughts and hope he has a safe trip. You are all in my thoughts and Amy is right, we will keep you company :)

(((Hugs)))

Thats awful. I hate thieves. man, get a job ok!!!!!.. :cussing: I had to learn the hard way about ss card when I lost my wallet. :nono: what a hassle it was to get everything back. atleast the cops found the guns. imagine what these punks could have done with those. scary. Im happy everyone is ok.

How awful! Do the police have any idea you did it? Hopefully they can get some good fingerprints, as you know the creeps probably have a rap sheet. I'll say a prayer that everything works out ok with your son. Thanks for the reminder tho about taking things out of our cars.

I feel your pain. I have had my car broken into, window smashed... more times than I care to say. The last time was in my driveway. It's infuriating.

Homeowners Insurance covers lost items inside the car.

Hope everything returns to normal for your family and that your hubby comes home soon! :)

 So sorry to hear about your family's theft. How lucky that neither your son or dil were in or near the car when it was taken. They could have been seriously harmed.
It's really a shame that these things have become so commonplace. We never leave anything in the car for that very reason.
Just think of all the great things you can do for yourself while dh is gone! It's a great time to pamper yourself. Do all the things that you don't find time to do when dh is home.
