This has really been a bad day (actually since it's past midnight now, technically yesterday was).
Got a call from my newly married son at 7am & he told me his wife's new 2007 Mustang that they had just gotten around Thanksgiving had been stolen out from under their carport!
They had broken into his truck, which had his backpack in it. It had his wallet and keys to his wife's car in it.
The police found his car around 9am. They found it on a jack to change the tire but evidently saw the cops coming. The thieves took the car for a joy-ride w/ the top down, did several donuts. It had flats on both sides of the car. They blew one tire and drove on the rim for miles ruining the rim & the bent the axle! :cussing: They also tore up the side of the car. The damage was nearly $10K!
In the trunk the cops found merchandise from the busy evening these creeps had had: 4 guns, 4 or 5 wallets, 20 - 30 DVDs, and 2 birth certificates! So, evidently their motive is partially identity theft. Unfortunately my son's wallet was not recovered so they had his SS# now.
Compared to that this is nothing, but hubby left today for a trip for work that is going to take about 1 1/2 weeks
.
Just as a reminder, locking your vehicles DOESN'T make your valuables safe. Take them inside your house with you. Also, it is recommended you keep your SS# in a safe place - NOT in your wallet. :nono: Also, make a copy of your credit cards that you keep in your wallet (front and back) & keep them locked up somewhere so that if they are stolen you know the credit card numbers & who to contact.
Hope someone else here learns from his mistakes! You never think it'll happen to you, but there are mean people out there everywhere!
