An age old shopping technique is making a comeback.

According to the New York Times, stores like Best Buy are allowing customers to bargain for price breaks.

The reason is partly due to the Internet, where customers can go for research and price comparison.

However, it is also a sign of the tough times in the economy.

Retailers like Best Buy, Circuit City, and Home Depot, are willing to drop the price on everything from Plasma TVs to cameras.

No stores are making big announcements about it, but some are quietly telling employees that it is okay to give in sometimes.

That is interesting, I never knew you could do that. I'm not sure I would be up for haggling the stores though, would feel strange to me.

Shoot, I'll haggle anybody (sounds dirty doesn't it) if I can save some money!! :headbang:

I always seek out the best price in print ads and online. When I find the best price, I print it out or bring the circular to the store I want to buy from, present it and ask them to beat the price. They do. Also, if it is within 30 days of my purchase, I will bring it in with my receipt and I get a partial refund.

Stay on top of these things, especially on major purchases. And, better yet, you save the S & H!

I do contact Amazon and ask them to refund price differences when the price goes down after I purchased an item and I do take ads to Walmart because, they will sell items to you at the price of other stores so I guess I do haggle some.

you can take me with you ladies...

I'm Asian and do a lot of traveling to Thailand, HK, Mainland (that's China to the white folks! lol) and Japan Sweepstakes. You MUST haggle.. or they know you are not a native.

I don't get the price I want, I walk..

and I'm gay so your husbands can trust me!

When we went to buy our car my hubby would not haggle with the car dude ~ I was getting so mad. I kept on telling him that we could get the car cheaper...needless to say, we will never know ~ we ended up paying their price! I could just kill him sometimes...but the salesman loves him!!!

I get so mortified when hubby does this. I mean, I like that he can be so bold and score us some good deals but pick and choose when and where to haggle, dude!

He's the football coach for our oldest son's school. He called the wrestling coach and asked him what he planned on doing with his wife's broke down VW because he wanted to cut off the catalytic converter and cash it in! He told the coach he'd give him a free pizza(hubby's best friend manages a pizza shop. Hubby's always selling him out ) Then he said he'd throw in our oldest son's old wrestling shoes!! I was SO mortified I started crying!

Japan is not as great as Hong Kong for prices (spoken like a true Chinese! lol)

My sister gets horrified when I haggle too.

About 6 years ago my mom went to Malaysia for 2 weeks to visit her best friend. Mom said it took some getting used to having the natives run up to her wanting her to buy things. Mom said she bent down to pick up one of the shop owner's little girls because she was so cute and the shop owner asked mom if she wanted her too

OMG, I meant to get a break from them! I've seen horror stories on TV. I just want to inflict my kids on someone else for a while! Heck, I might pay them!

LMAO!!! You know your kids are always really good when they're with someone else

I actually did a really good impression of Raven last night after the 11 year old did an ass bomb on the 6 year old
