How are you using your stimulus checks? We got ours yesterday and yep, it will be gone today.

Some clothes for the kids $150
3 Cute outfits to send to my 3 neices in CA as a surprise
Gave $400 to our landlord
Ate out last night (Buffet, no high end dining!)
Few groceries and heigene products
Dog food (When the heck did that go up?! $20 a bag!) and a big bag of dog bones
Gas (ugh!)
Floaties, 2 swim towels for the kids, 2 swimming goggles
Today hubby is picking up one of those pools
New tail light for the truck

We didn't get to do 1/2 of the stuff we were planning on doing since giving the landlord $400 and having to get more gas but, thats ok. I at least got them a few clothes to start out the new school year in August. Once hubby picks up the pool and the kids get haircuts the money will be long gone. Was great while it lasted, a huge help!

we got ours last week. :headbang: 2,100.00

Season passes to six flags~ around 400.00
Clothes for the kids~ not sure how much we will spend. they out grew everything over the winter. my 12 yr old daughter is now in size 8 shoe. this month anyway. She has gone up two whole sizes in a few months.
not sure what we will do with the rest. buy groceries I'm sure and keep some back for times when money is a little tight.

We only received $1200 which I guess is better than a kick in the a$$. Originally we were suppose to get $1800 but, that changed when rules kept changing.

We didn't buy shoes yet, I am afraid that if I buy shoes they will grow a size bigger before school starts, so we are buying shoes a couple weeks before it starts.

I sent a text to hubby, hopefully he calls me before he goes to walmart. They have some Hannah Montana shirts on clearance for $5 and my daughter loves Hannah Montana. I want him to pick 1 or 2 up for DD's birthday in 3 weeks. I couldn't grab them yesterday since the kids were with me.

Same here.

Ours went to two different bills. House payment and propane. While it didn't go far, it was free money so I am grateful.

ya mean you didnt buy a big screen tv with it. Im sure most people are paying bills with it. Thats the smart thing to do. I know I will be saving a big chunk of ours for that reason. My husband doesnt have a nine to five. Every week is different. Some are really, really good and some are just enough ya know. If I put some back it will help cover things we may be short on one month. Especially if gas goes up as high as they say it will. 6.00 by labor day. wth? how are people supposed to afford that.

We were going to buy a 100 gallons of propane but, that would have taken 1/2 of the check and we needed other things so that's going to wait. We need more propane but, since it's only hot water running from there right now during the summer we will see what happens this summer to start adding some here and there for the winter.

The gas prices suck!

I am grateful also for what we did get. Of course we don't need that pool (Its a hundred and something $$) but, its so hot and humid and my kids and I need some type of outside exercise during the summer. It will keep us cool and maybe help us get into shape which would be a great benefit. If my daughter gets too hot, her nose bleeds. She had 3 yesterday (2 at home, 1 in town). They were minor but, sometimes blood pours out of her nose if she gets overheated.

Nope. No big screen. Sigh. Hubby likes TV too much anyway and I need him to do some repairs around the house. He sucks at that. I keep threatening to call "hire-a-husband" and have them send out their finest

Holy #$@&! $6??!!! I hate to say it, but people are going to resort to robbing and stealing like we've never seen. People are desperate. Food banks are running low and there's little money left for food once bills are paid. I know others say to hang in there or keep treading water but for how long? Some people are at their breaking point.

Sorry. Back on topic. Once again I am very grateful for my our stimulus payment. I don't see how Bush expected us to buy TVs and such with it, but I am grateful nonetheless.

Miki-don't feel bad for one second on buying that pool. Your kids deserve to be able to cool off and have fun in it this summer. We're planning on getting the boys one as well. If it means getting behind on the electric bill then so be it.

My stimulus payment is going to Canada-I'm buying Mom a full set of Farscape and an all region DVD player to play it on (since the only way you can get season 1 is to get the Australian release :cussing:)
My roommate is getting some genetic testing done. :sunny:

Summer daycare for my 6 year old. We decided three years ago that I could work part-time (while he was in school) instead of full-time since hubby's job was so good. Now with this economy, I have to go back to working full-time and miss out time with my son. :cussing:

We are buying propane and stuff for the house! We have so many things that we are needing to buy to update ( I guess we are getting ready to die...)but it has to be done.

Miki, the way I look at the pool thing, is that it is less than gas taking your kids out somewhere to play. One good trip to the movies will blow almost as much ~ never feel guilty doing something good for your kids!!

I don't even want to think about our propane bill...our tank is 1000 gallon and we always put 700 in ~ I have to call tomorrow and order ~ grrrrrrr! At least it should last us a year (fingers and toes crossed!)

Sorry to hear that. It just sucks being put in a situation such as this.

We got $1200 and it went straight to the county for school and county taxes that we were late paying but I am so glad they are paid now. We have 1 daughter that is working 2 full time jobs putting her daughter through college and because of some rule she didn't qualify for anything!

Yeah ~ that is sad! I know some people say that it builds character, but working that much and trying to carry a full-time college load has to be so hard!

Ping and completelyme, hubby did pick up the pool and I might have had mixed feelings before but, I couldn't be happier with the purchase now! The pool is 16'X3' 6" and we went swimming twice today (after going to an appointment and then shocking it since the water was discolored). We all (Yes, all of us! Wed. is hubby's extra day off) had a blast and I think I worked more muscles in my body than I have in a long time because, I'm feeling it in my legs.

I told the kids that we will need to go swimming in the mornings and then in the evenings because, it is directly in the sun. My son has already had severe burns from swimming a couple summers ago. I left and when I got back they let him take his shirt off after I said no and it was awful, I had never seen a sunburn so bad in my life, except for when the top of my husbands head was burnt from a boating trip! I am paranoid, always putting sunblock on them and not wanting them to play in the sun without shade for long periods of time. My daughter tans so easily like I can but, I am still the same way with her, especially with her nose bleeds.

You are all so right, this is private and they can get plenty of exercise and have a good time without having to spend a fortune. All we need to do is keep up on the shocking treatments and other chemicals needed which is still considerably less than gasoline.

I am going this coming week to do some grocery shopping and let me tell you, I am picking up a lot of fruits and veggies to eat after swimming. Swimming makes you very hungry!

I just want to send out some  to those having a tough time right now. I know I said it in another thread but, I want to say it again.

I assume you've already scared yourself googling "Epistaxis" so I don't have to do it? :)

My nose bleed so badly and often when I was young (starting at about age 7) that I was at the doctor several times. Thank goodness that I never had to have any kind of medical procedure to make it stop. I did end up in the ER several times though ~ I was in 9th grade and me and my friends had went to see '101 Dalamations' and my nose started to bleed and wouldn't stop for anything ~ the owner of the theater thought I was gonna die or pass out or something and he called my Dad to come and get me. My nose bled for the better part of 2 hours that time. The doctor stopped it by pinching the top of my nose at the bridge. My nose doesn't drip ~ it pours when it bleeds!!!

Miki, glad you guys are enjoying the pool  We're not too far behind you on getting one ourselves. Let's hope it's here before Fall

And I know about sunblock paranoia. I have one pasty kid and one that tans like me. They hate taking the time for me to apply it and once they're wet it's like pulling teeth to have to reapply it. I told them yesterday it will be reapplied every 2 hours so get used to it and quit the whining.

If one of my kids had a nosebleed like you guys get they'd surely die. I'd faint @ the mere sight of it and they'd bleed to death unless another adult was around. Both of mine actually get them on a semi-regular basis. They have small adenoids like hubby. When it happens my head fills, my ears ring, my mouth goes dry, I get nauseous, and I start seeing stars. I have to put my head between my legs. I can watch the goriest of movies but can't take a kid bleeding. Any kid.
