Dry mixed bean soup recipes?

I was looking in my cupboard to write down things I already have in there and found a full jar of mixed dry beans (peas, pintos, etc. all really tiny and look to be pieces ). Does anyone have a good recipe I can use to turn these into a soup? Preferably a crockpot recipe to help keep the kitchen heat down. There are no directions and I have no clue how to cook them and this would save $$ on a meal and you all know how high everything is getting, I don't have to tell you that!

TIA!

:sunny: I don't have a particular recipe, but what I would do is.
Rinse beans in cold water
Soak bean overnight in a pot that is at least 3 times bigger than the amount soaking. For each cup of beans use 3 cups of water. Drain the water the next morning.
Put in the crockpot with and cover with water. I would also add a ham bone, ham hocks or even some sausage cut up. Also some celery, onions, pepper, some salt (not if ham is salty), some thyme and a bay leaf. Cook in the crockpot til beans are tender.
You could also use chicken parts and add chicken stock instead of water.
Use your imagination! It will be yummy!

Really great suggestions in this post, Miki. I make mine with ham sometimes and other times kielbasa. I add celery, onion, seasoning salt, pepper, garlic powder, and sometimes shredded cheese after they are done cooking.

So basically cook them just like you would regular pinto beans, except with some extra yummies! Thank you. Do you ever add veggies to your bean soup?

:sunny: If you want it to be more of a beef vegetable soup, I would add some beef shanks, or stew beef, cut up carrots, parsnips, potatoes and/or cabbage, canned tomatoes and instead of covering with water I would use tomato juice. Add any vegatable that your family likes.

We like mixed beans with canned tomatoes and a bunny (dead, cut up). This is very inexpensive if you have a yard full of bunnies and a .410. The way food prices are going lately I'm looking into ways to prepare coyote. If you use wildlife you can also use V-8 as part of the cooking liquid, its very good for masking the gamey flavor.

Not a word. Just LMAO!

Seriously though, I know many people around here who prefer to hunt or raise food. I would like to raise a hog but, hubby thinks I will become too attatched.

Reminds me of when we were raising beef cows. My grandson was 3 and raised a calf from birth. When it was time to take it to the butcher shop. Trevor says "Nani, I don't want to take Bruno to the butcher shop" I told him that if we didn't take Bruno to the butcher shop that we wouldn't have room in the barn for a pony. He looks up at me and says "I think Bruno is going to taste pretty good!"

 That is too funny!

I picked up some spices today and I wrote out a list of the spices I have on hand. Going to experiment with the bean soup this week.

Get a Yorkshire pig. Ask for that breed by name. They are mean, hateful pigs and you will be glad to see it die. Do NOT get a Landrace or a Poland China. Those are all cute and adorable. If you get a Yorkshire you may end up killing it yourself, they are bred to be horrid.

I couldn't raise one of those types of pigs then since I have 2 children. Once I can build a pen I might try to talk dh into getting a pig for meat. He loves to hunt during deer season (I don't really care for venison and I refuse to hunt, I love deer too much) he usually shares the meat to help fill everyones freezers up for the winter and he said he plans to go turkey hunting next season as well. I would love to raise laying hens also. Heck, give me enough land and supplies and I would raise an entire farm!
