GOOD HOUSEKEEPING

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THE PROBLEM, THAT WHENEVER YOU TRY TO ENTER A CONTEST WITH GOOD HOUSEKEEPING, AND THEY ASK YOU IF YOU WANT TO SUBSCRIBE AND YOU SAY "NO" THEY SUBSCRIBE YOU ANYWAY? :cussing: THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 3 TIMES, AS I HAVE FORGOTTEN IF I HAVEN'T DONE THEM IN A WHILE. THE LAST TIME WE WENT BACK AND FORTH UNTIL THEY THREATENED MY CREDIT, AND I PAYED. NOW I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN. IT'S LIKE A BAD DATE. "NO" OBVIOUSLY MEANS "YES" :nono:

If you read the entry form, it gives you a link to click on to go to the non-subscription form.

This is what it says on the entry form on the subscription part:

If you like what you see, you'll get 11 more issues (12 in all) for just $7.97 — that's 73% less than others pay on the newsstand.* If not, return the bill marked "cancel" and keep the first issue with no obligation. You'll still be eligible to win the sweepstakes.

No purchase is necessary to enter. If you'd prefer to enter the sweepstakes without starting a trial subscription to Good Housekeeping or if you are already a subscriber, click here.

Several of those sweeps have changed to where there are 2 places you have to say you don't want to subscribe or want the trial subscription. It's an easy and irritating mistake. I really hate the way they changed them - makes them much more time-consuming!

I have a generic passcard made up for these. When I click through to the non-subscription form, I just click on "Good Housekeeping" on my tool bar (Fill and Submit); and it's done.

I do too, but I just have to remember to click on the non-subscription part instead of my normal hurry, hurry, hurry thing. That good ole dain-bramage gets me every time

This is major problem with all the Hearst magazines. You can cancel the "order" after you receive the bill or after two days of receiving the Hearst "thank you for your order" by logging onto the Hearst site and clicking on Customer Service. A menu will pop up and you can choose "Unsubscribe." There will be a place to tell Hearst why you are unsubscribing IF you want to use it. I've done this so many times I don't tell them any more. I believe Hearst is counting on you to be frustrated and its threats lead you to "just pay it." I read someplace that magazine companies cannot legally destroy your credit rating by adding an "unpaid" subscription to our credit records. That may not be true, but I read it someplace ONCE. Good luck. It might be best not to even enter the Hearst contests. That's what I decided for myself.

I've been entering their sweepstakes for years and have won many nice prizes from them. On occasion, where I accidentally subscribed from rushing through and not thoroughly reading, I never had a problem with unsubscribing. Any direct contact I have had with them for anything has always been polite and courteous. I've never been threatened by them or heard of anyone else being threatened by them.

It would be nice if they would just send you an email that says, "you subscribed, did you mean to do that?? click here to validate..."

But nah, that makes too much sense.

especially since there are 2 places on one page and you say on one "no I don't want to subscribe" and on the other you forget to click.... you'd think they would be getting conflicting info on their spreadsheet :crazytongue:

I don't know how much time they must spend subscribing and unsubscribing people. I've kept them busy for sure
