Tattoos?

I have my hubby's name branded on me, inside the body of a little kitty. If hubby neesd to be booted for any reason, she can just color it in...no more neame, LOL
I have a little penguin too....I got it in South Philly, and it is a remembrance of a different time....ahhhhh.....

Oh - and here is my answer for "do I like tattoos?":

I got my dolphin over a sunset on my left ankle when I was 30 and still love it. Now at 40 I want to get a steer head with barbed wire and I don't know where to put it. I think it will clash to get it on the other ankle. I want it where it can be seen without flashing too much skin. I don't want it on my arm - tattoo on an arm is not a "girl thing" to me.

Celticbikerbabe, your tatoo is absoultely beautiful. I hope it is one-of-a-kind, just for you, because it really looks custom made. The artwork is fantastic, weaving the celtic knots and the biker themes. Did it take many sittings, or are you patient and could have it all done at one time? Thanks for showing us. I'm so impressed!

Hi again guys and gals! Thanks so much for all the wonderful compliments!! To answer the questions that were asked: I have spent 3 full days in the tattoo shop from open to close for this one, and there are a few hours more to go for some shading on the critters and stuff. I plan to just keep it black and grey, I think there is enough going on there! The design is an authentic one straight from the Book of Kells, modified slightly to make it tattooable, and to fit in the dragon that was already there. It represents the world and all the plants and animals in it, and how they are all interconnected. It just happens to look "Bikerish"! :sunny:

Wow! I just got out my Book of Kells (one of my all time favorites). At first, I thought the linking chains down the middle of your tatoo were modifications, but I see similar designs in the book. I can't see your particular design, I guess my book would need to have more close-ups. There are many beautiful designs which incorporate animals. Are the shamrocks your idea too?

I like how your dragon blends in too, nice. (I'm year of the dragon. You too?)

Your tatoo is so stunning. I bet you hate to cover it up!

Hello again arrtup3! Most of the spots where you see shamrocks were part of the modification to make the whole thing tattooable, simplifying it so the lines wouldn't blend together into a giant black blob. The shamrocks were a compromise, I had wanted to do those 3 leaf plants you see in so many ancient Celts' designs, but they just would not come out right, so we did the shamrocks as they have more open space inside. They are sort of helping to fill in areas where there were people in the design (probably why you are having a hard time locating the design), she spread the other elements out and used the shamrocks to fill in the leftover gaps. We had to knock something out, and I chose the people because I am not crazy about knotwork people, they just do not look asthetically pleasing to me. Guess I am just a critter person! :sunny:

Oh - I was born in the year of the rat, but have had a facination with dragons my whole life, I have 5 dragon tattoos, including one over my heart that I had done when I visted England. Not the greatest tat, but because of where I got it, it's kinda special to me. I don't have a good pic of it, but you can kinda see it in this one.

Thanks, celticbikergirl. I can't see the dragon very well, but I do get the idea. You are brave and creative! Make me feel old too...being liberated in my generation was a whole different thing, but I hope it opened the door for yours in many ways.

Did you know that many people consider the Year of the Rat to be the best year, because in the Chinese legend, the rat was the first to cross the river, because he was the most clever.

Have fun sweeping, and thanks again for sharing your gorgeous tattoo pictures. I know what you mean about the people in the Book of Kells, but they were probably drawn in the 4th century A.D., right? :) The shamrocks work well in their place, and yes, I agree, the critters are the best. I have a bodhran on my wall with a critter/Book of Kells design. I was hoping my son would play around with it, but he said it was "too artsy." Guys!

girl? :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Thanks!! LOL!!! I'm 35! Actually that's really nice to hear since I was just informed yesterday that I have osteopenia (precursor to osteoporosis) and early onset of menopause! Woo hoo!

My name is Victoria, ppl I chat with usually use Vic or CBB (I know my nickname is kinda silly, I got christened with it by chat buddies over 10 years ago, and it has become a sort of tradition for me).

I had heard the tale of the rat, I love the Chinese Astrology story!

Did you know that the knotwork animals go back to the stone age Picts? They have found standing stones in Scotland with knotwork dogs carved into them that clearly date back before the Celts to the time of the Picts.

Oh - I have a really interesting site about a re-enactment group in England that do "authentic as possible" Iron Age Celt battles and living village events, let me know if you are interested and I will post a link. They were in the documentary about Boudicca that the History channel has been showing as well. Also the site might interest your son, they have some great fiddly info on iron age weapons and stuff that guys tend to really get into.

Now I'm the one who is laughing. I'm almost old enough to be your mother! (But I don't feel it and don't believe it, somehow I was too busy to notice time pass so rapidly.)

CBB is a unique name, intriguing. You asked if I would be interested in the link to iron age Celtic battles. I sure am. Thanks. My 3 "boys" are in college, so they have outgrown their interest in weapons, but earlier they went the route of Japanese martial arts, studying Aikido and Kendo.

I have always been interested in things Celtic and finally made it to Ireland five years ago. Have been doing some related reading lately. It is fun.

Thanks, CBB.

P.S. 35, still a girl, or a babe! :)

I've thought about one but havn't done it yet. I said when I turn 50 and I have a couple years to go. I do have a navel peircing I got about 5 years ago when I worked out hard enough to get a flat stomach so anythings possible.
