Selling on Ebay

I'm thinking about selling some of my prizes on Ebay & I'm wondering for those that do this already, how do you handle your return policy when you don't have a sales receipt? ...any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

Whenever I sell on ebay I do not accept returns. If your buyer complains to ebay that they didn't get what was promised it will be up to ebay to decide who is right.

I only had 1 person complain and since it was an automotive part that my husband said worked (even tho he never tested it) and they said it didn't, I returned their money.

I've found its best to ensure several things on your listing:

1. At least one picture of the actual item as is. If you are stating this item is brand new or new in box and the bidder states this is not true and you have shown the actual item that is difficult to dispute.

2. Have a very specific return policy. For small items I specify no returns accepted as its not worth it. For items over $10, I state returns accepted within 7 days of receipt of item and full refund offered if item is defective, but buyer is responsible to pay return shipping costs. This generally makes it not worthwhile for a buyer to break an item and demand a refund if they have to go through the cost and hassle to return it themselves.

3. Ship items with tracking and delivery confirmation. When I first used Ebay I shipped items via USPS with no tracking until a buyer claimed the item never arrived and demanded a full refund. I had no way to prove the item arrived and was out the cost of the item plus shipping costs.

I'm assuming you are using Paypal as your clearing house for payments as that's the easiest and Ebay doesn't allow checks or cash to be used anymore. Always keep in mind what would happen via PayPal if a buyer disputes your item. Paypal is very specific in what you as the seller are responsible for when shipping an item and they tend to work for the buyer (to an over-zealous fault, in my opinion) in any case of disputes. Those three things listed above should make any disputes very difficult for someone trying to scam you.
