Just for an ugly Sweater

I needed to have a letter notarized just to win an ugly sweater from Corona. I just passed because it also required my SS #

I have won smaller items from alcohol companies that wanted my SS# and I also pass! Not worth it!!

I have also won things that just showed up on my doorstep without all the info. I have NO idea why some companies want a ridiculous amount of info and others not. Anyone know??

The sweater is a very nice 100 % cotton. Mine arrived. So worth getting the paperwork submitted. Is it too late for you to submit?

kewkalika- because any sweepstakes we win is taxable by the IRS, they can ask for your SSN & a notarized affidavit.

HOWEVER

Many times I've read posts where the winner took the time to contact the sponsor to determine if they *had* to do an affy when they won a lower tier prize - most of the time, the answer was yes.

But, unless you ask, you don't know if they only had one type of form and only those who won prizes worth $600 or more really needed to get the form notarized.

I assumed the alcohol companies asked for affys/notarization because they are, in fact, alcohol companies. Probably the best way to guarantee the winner is 21+...

I once won a prize from Corona and executed the affidvit, but asked if I could leave my soc # off since the value was under $600. They said yes.

It does seem silly but they are just protecting themselves in case of an audit. I received a 1099 for $14.95 from Pizza Hut years ago. It was the Pizza Hut Smile sweepstakes and I won a Children's books written by Dom Delouise.
