 Mine is contests with public voting. Like, come on, how are people getting hundreds of votes? I have like 3 friends who would probably vote and you bet I'm not paying for votes - LOL.

What's yours?

My personal opinion but I think there should be a legal requirement for sweepstakes who charge for entries to have a completely free entry method and not by postal mail. Postal mail as we all know is far from free. :) I've seen some other sweeps sponsors who have a paid method also state in the their rules "send an email to ...". for a free entry. I think most people would rather just send a quick email than send something via postal mail. Hopefully that will change in the future.

I suspect that a few of these "run 350 miles for 1 free entry or pay us $350 for 1 million entries" type sweepstakes floating around would eventually be found illegal if one of them were sued.

Also, I don't bother with any public voting contests on the theory that those get gamed by some entrants.

I agree, however. My guess is they want us to spend lots of time reading rules carefully ( over + o er ) to get everything exactly right. Advertisement product might stick in our memory. The giveaway is just an enticement to get potential customers. Gotta believe some marketing people have never entered a sweepstakes/drawing/giveaway ...

I actually thought about my reply again later. No, the government does not require postal mail for free entry, but it does strictly mandate that a free alternative method of entry (amoe sweepstakes) must exist to prevent a sweepstakes from being classified as an illegal lottery. While companies can legally offer free entry via online forms, email, or QR codes, many choose a mail-in option voluntarily to deter automated bot fraud, ensure "equal dignity" in effort between paid and free entrants, and create a minor financial friction (the cost of a stamp) that discourages individuals from spamming the system.

The goal is product memory, for potential customers to buy something, not actually giving away anything. AI bots will ruin it for everyone. There will always be scammers everywhere. The chance to get anything for nothing, is why sweepstakes are enticing.
