A really clever way to serve eggs that is easy to prepare!

I just noticed this in the latest clean home journal e-mail, (see link below) and just had to share it. I think this is an extremely clever way to serve eggs, and it isn't at all hard to make! :sunny: :cheers:

Perhaps some of you lucky duckies who have won the Philly basket can make this to go with your bagel and cream cheese! :crazytongue: :popcorn:

Those are kind of like birds in a nest. I've seen them made with hash brown cups and with bread cups. Those look good with the ham. Thanks for sharing.
 
Yw bunnytoes! :wave: I thought they looked really tasty, too. I also like the fact they look fancy but aren't hard to make. Good for a baby shower brunch or something.

Okay, confession time. When I found this recipe, I almost immediately had a flash of white trash inspiration. If you have ever fried baloney, it tends to rise up around the edges in a perfect bowl shape. I could see cracking an egg or two into that "bowl", lowering the heat, adding a bit of water to the pan and covering for a few min until the egg sets. Might make a pretty cool (and cheap) hillbilly breakfast. :laughing:

Gonna get some baloney next time I go shopping and try it out... :popcorn: :crazytongue:
 
:sunny: They are easy to make and would be great when serving breakfast to several people. I like the idea of the baloney as long as it was thin sliced and all beef!

My family always liked what we called "Egg in the Hole". Butter both side of a piece of bread, cut a hole big enough for the yoke in the middle of the bread. Put the bread in an already heated skillet, crack your egg into the hole, when the bread is browned on the bottom. flip over and cook until the egg white is done. When you put it on the plate, all you see is the yoke in the hole of the toasted bread. I usually toasted the holes in the skillet, too. Just for extra dunking toast. It's a great way to get your kids to eat eggs.

Oh my gosh...flashback umpteen years ago!! School lunch consisting of a fried baloney, scoop of mashed potatos in the middle of the "bowl" with cheddar cheese melted over the potatos. Yes, we actually ate lunches like that.

Speaking of hillbilly breakfast, I actually subscribe to the hillbilly housewife newsletter!! :laughing: Deep Southern gal here.

Now my grossout secret. I love fried spam sandwiches. Yummy. I know most folks hate Spam, but I love it fried and put on white bread.
 
:laughing: So funny that you mentioned Spam! :spam: I hadn't had any in a long time. My dh is a very picky eater and does the majority of the shopping. Well today I had some shopping to do and I saw the 70th anniversary can of Spam and bought it! I love Spam! Especially on white bread, with Miracle Whip and leaf lettuce. I bought the Lite to get it a try. So some afternoon when dh is getting himself some fast food, I will be here enjoying a spam sandwich! :headbang:

I have heard that too about Japan, though I don't remember where. Did you know that they are going to start selling individual Spam slices in foil pouches, like tuna? Awhile back they had a coupon in the paper here to get a free one. Sounds like you had some awesome school lunches, at least from a kid's point of view, I would have loved to get that instead of a dried up old grey hot dog like we always got! :crazytongue:

pmeek - That is a coincidence, my mom does the "egg in the hole" breakfast, she is from England and it is a popular breakfast there, they call it "toad in the hole". As a kid, I always liked it with the "holes" set on top of the yolk like a lid. I would say it was oscar the grouch in his trash can. :laughing:
 
:sunny: I don't know about Japan but I do know that Hawaiians eat the most spam. In fact last year Burger King in Hawaii started serving the Spam Platter for breakfast. McDonald's has been serving Spam in Hawaii since 2002! The World of Spam! :spam:
