A little upset

Tomorrow and Tuesday is awards day at the school, awards day only comes ONCE per year at this school and because, I don't have a way there, I get to miss my kids receiving those awards and that really sucks because, I don't miss days this important and I know it will hurt their feelings...it hurts mine.

Does your school have a PTA? Since their role is to encourage parental involvement, it seems like one of the officers giving a parent who wishes to be involved a ride to school for awards day might fall within their organizational description? This site has contact info for local PTA's

I can understand your frustration.

My 6th grader's award ceremony is @ 8am. My youngest has to be at school by 8:45. So, I'll have to leave in the middle of the ceremony, take the youngest across the street to the grade school, and then return to the ceremony in hopes I don't miss anything.

I just don't understand why the middle school couldn't have the ceremony after school in the early evening.

They have a booster club but, I don't know who the officers are and I live out in the country area so I couldn't expect them to come and pick me up.

I agree completelyme, if they had the awards later in the day more parents would be able to show up and not have conflicting schedules. I know my daughter is getting an award for sure, she has been on honor roll this whole year and this would be her first award ceremony so I am bummed that I missed it.

This is what happens when you get down to a one vehicle household. I miss my car! Thanks for letting me vent, I know it seems petty but, I didn't want to miss my kids special day.

It's not petty.

Miki, send a note to the teacher and ask if she can send out a note. You can always say that your car is in the shop and won't be back next week and need a ride.

My heart breaks for you. My sister is working full time now and had to tell her daughter that she can't go this year. Needless to day, her daughter was hysterically crying for hours about it.

gorgor, I am so sorry to hear that your sister cannot attend either. These are special days and your kids do take notice.

Well, my daughter came home today and she did get an honor roll award. I missed it, her very first one. I am going to miss the ceremony tomorrow which is my sons. *Sigh* I hope I don't miss next years. I took pictures of her with her award and put it in my album.

Here they go pick up carless parents for parent teacher conferences, when the kids are breaking out windows and doing graffiti, drugs etc.. It'd probably be a relief for them to pick up a mom who's kid was doing something right :sunny:

Like gorgor said, Miki, it's definately NOT petty.

Good on your daughter and your son  And they know Mom loves them, regardless of anything else :) Maybe you guys can grill out this weekend or do something small to celebrate. I know how you're always cooking. You could make them their favorite dessert. Kids get over things fast. It's us parents that it sticks with.

Last night, I had to choose between my oldest son's band recital and my youngest son's baseball game. My oldest plays an instrument because he's made to by the school so he was OK about me going to the game. My mom and step-dad went to the recital while hubby and I went to the ball game. At one point, Mother called me on her cell and allowed me to listen a bit. That was nice :)

That had to be really hard for you. I am glad that the grandparents were able to go to one while you attended the other. Great idea about the grilling. Actually, we are waiting for the coals to finish because, we are grilling some chicken and I made a surprise lemon cake last night so we will have dessert.

My son came home with an honor roll award as well today. They both brought in report cards. My dd received 4 A's and 1 B and my son 4 B's and 1 A, plus they both received an A in PE.
