a win?

I got a call just now with a recorded message saying I had won $200 grocery vouchers and a $20 debit card and to talk to an operator press "one" so I did. Then the operator tells me I have won $200 gas vouchers and I just need to pay a $2.00 activation fee and I will get a reference number (??). I wasn't prepared to give my debit card details for the $2. It just sounded bad. Has this happened to other people? Was I right to be dubious?

Same thing happened to me. I said no. It didn't make sense, Why send even $2 for a win? The lady said "You don't have $2? You’re not interested in getting $200 for gas?"

oh yeah, one time a man called and said I won a $500 Target gift card but have 5 minutes to respond with a $15 shipping fees (credit card only) otherwise he'll pick another winner right away! It sounded so dumb that I laughted and told him he can keep the card!!!

sounds like all they were after was a credit or debit card number i would have just hung up, never give out that info to anyone.

Just keep sweeping, just keep sweeping.

That has "scam" written all over it! Thank goodness you were skeptical and didn't fall for it. Boo-hoo to the scammers! :sunny:

They are just trying to get your credit / debit number then they drain your account. Glad you did not give it to them. Scammers SUCK. SA ROCKS!! :headbang:

Lotus, a debit card number is a direct link into your checking account. Even if they did only and initial $2.00 charge, they are probably preparing to hit you up for more later. A credit card is a little better since charges can be disputed. But never give a credit card or debit card number to an unsolicited third party.

And a wise old saying "If you have to pay money, you haven't won anything!"

Good luck on some real wins

Now I need to get back to claiming my Nigerian inheritance...
