Anyone RECENTLY have a child travel alone on a plane?

My sister's outlaws... errr.. inlaws.. want the kids to fly up north for a week.

The kids are 10 and 12. Anyone have any recent experiences with a child flying alone.

My sister is concerned that she can't go threw security and has no intentions of hoping the airline will help her.

that and her inlaws are idiots. lol
 
They will have someone escort the children to the area to board their plane and stay with them until the stewardess takes over at the door of the plane. When they get off they will have someone escort them to the waiting area where people wait for passengers. With the extra security these day, they may need some kind of documentations/identifications from the parents and relatives picking them up. We haven't had any children in the family fly since the extra security, so I don't know what they require now.
 
(humorous tone) Since they're your sisters in law's kids, I'd recommend viewing Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay before setting out.... :crazytongue:
Have you checked with the individual airline to see what their current policy is? Everything seems to be changing constantly these days. :scratch:

Unfortunately, it was the typical grandparents talked to the kids about before talking to her. :cussing:

You already know how much Sis loves them anyway :nono: :error:

She's already told husband that they will decide what airline. FIL doesn't like it, kids don't go.

Wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with any airline besides JetBlue. :nono:
 
What happened with Jet Blue can and has happened with just about every other airline. So, there's no guarantee of having a problem-free experience. My first pick is American Airline's airbus. Continental was nice, but we returned from Las Vegas on one of their planes that looked like it time-warped from well in the past. Southwest has the friendliest crew.
 
Many airlines will issue the parent dropping the children off a pass to enter the gate area where they wait with the children until they board the plane. The person picking them up at their destination can also get a pass to meet the children at the gate. Call ahead to see what security at your particular airports allow you to do and arrive a little early on both ends to make sure you have enough time to deal with security.

My BIL does this all the time with his kids. They typically fly Southwest.

I just talked to my friend about this this morning. Her ex-husband was wanting the kids to fly out instead of driving to get them...it was going to cost my friend an extra $100.00 to walk her kids to the gate. She said on the flight that she was getting (not sure which airline) but you had to buy passes...I understand the problems with security, but this is a lot of money for just a pass to walk someone to the gate...
 
:sunny: I think all the airlines have their own policies on kids flying alone now. You really need to contact the airlines direct. There was one airline that was charging an extra $75 for the escort and some only allow direct flights on kids.
