are you a good tipper?

We went out to eat this weekend and at a table nearby was four very demanding adults. When they left the waitress came over and counted the money they left for a tip. six dollars. she just shook her head. I felt so bad for her. What do you think is a good tip amount. If you recieve good service? We tip at least twenty percent if the service is good. If its bad we still leave a tip. My mom and mother in law were both waitress's. my mother in law raised six kids waiting tables. I think the tip should be calculated into your eating out budget. Im not saying you should tip well if the service stinks but most of the time service is good. It has to be if they want a tip right? Whats your thoughts on tipping?
 
Im not a very good tipper. But my husband is. Which makes sense because he makes 3 X's the amount of money I make. But he is a pizza delivery driver, so he knows about tips.
He has gotten alot of people that don't tip. He calls it, "Stiffs".
One person gave his coworker a kitten for a tip lol

(I bet someone reading this, is thinking,... hmmm hes a pizza delivery driver, and makes 3 x's more then his wife. She must not make anything.
I only work 2-3 hours a day :)
 
I never really cared about tipping until my boyfriend told me that is the way these people make their living (tips). And I thought about it and thought, "he's right". So yes I make it a point to always tip. But on the other hand the waiter/waitress doesn't know the person who is sitting down to eat and what if that person doesn't have very much money at all and only leaves what they can for tip. I think that is fine 2. But when that waiter/waitress goes to pick it up and "shakes" their head because they didn't get the tip they were hoping for, I remember them and will NOT tip them on my next visit back. Makes me wonder if they are only being nice for that big tip at the end or if that person is "really" a nice waiter/waitress.
 
I think 20 percent is goodbut if they don't give me good service I don't tip as well.

I think I should be a pizza delivery person lol

He brings home about $50 in tips a night. But thats working like 9 hours. Sometimes more money sometimes less. Then he always has his regular pay.

The pays not that bad, Its the working nights that is horrible. Hes like a zombie in the day time. And at night, when we try to go to sleep he is wired.
 
If I get excellent service I am very generous on tipping more than the 20% that is usually given. But if I get poor service and the waitress/waiter never comes back to my table to ask if we need anything then I don't leave nothing. I'm refuse to tip someone who is rude and doesn't do their job.
 
I guess I'm not , of coarse the fanciest resteraunt I go to is MCdonalds :laughing: :cheers:
 
You also need to take into account that waiters or waitresses can make less than minimum wage! The little Mom and Pop places can count tips into their salary. I made a big $2.50 an hour when I was a waitress. You could usually tell who was going to tip. I treated everyone the same, even the ones that NEVER tipped at all. I couldn't treat anyone bad on purpose.

There is a difference also between bad food and bad service. I always make my husband remember that the waitress isn't cooking the food. He is a horrible tipper, he just doesn't realize what the job takes! I have to MAKE him tip well!
 
I'm a good tipper. Only once have I not left a tip. That was a really bad experience. My average tip is 20%. If service is stellar, I will give 25% if it was not great, 15%. I left 10% the other night, that really is my lowest. She was pretty horrible. There was the one time I requested a new waitress as ours was mouthy and mean to all her customers. I tipped the new waitress 20 % and would only give it to her if the manager assured me that the second waitress would get the whole tip. This girl yelled at us when we asked her for our drinks 20 minutes after we ordered. She yelled at the people behind us because they had no silverware and their food was at the table.

I guess she just didn't have any people skills! :nono:
 
I always tip good, since I used to work in the restaurant industry and I know how awful it is. I was a bus person and also worked back in the kitchen. I hate when I go out and see people yelling at the waitress because their food isn't done yet, most of the time it's not the waitress's fault, it's a problem back in the kitchen. So I always tip good.
 
When I was in my early 20's, I ordered a dish that had cooked carrots in it. I didn't know it did - until I took a bite - it permeated the whole dish and ruined it for me, I couldn't eat it!!!

Well, when the waitress noticed I wasn't eating it, she asked if there was something wrong with it, and I told her it was my own fault for not asking - I detest the taste of cooked carrots!!!

Do you know what she did? She had the manager remove it from our bill!!! I was eating with a friend, going dutch, so she tipped & paid her portion, and I paid mine & tipped what that entree cost along with the tip for what I did eat.

As we were leaving, I just had to look back to see her face when she saw her tip(s) PRICELESS!!! :headbang:

So put me in the "Tips well for good service" category :)
