Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

Do you enter contests indiscriminately, as opposed to just entering what you'd like to win? Do you opt in to receive their newsletters? Do you think that helps in winning? Just wondering! GLA!

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

I am not like some who just enter ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.... I enter for the things I would like to win... I opt to receive their newsletter only if it is something I want to read up on or want to be a part of... No, I don't think that opting in or out of newletters will help you win... the only thing that will help YOU to win.... is YOU and entering sweeps...

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

I only enter for prizes that my family wants, can use, and/or needs.

Opting in for newsletters does not influence the outcome of who wins.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

I only enter for what I want or need for myself or know I can give as a Christmas gift. Sometimes I will enter for something because a friend or relative really needs it. I do not believe signing up for newsletters affects winning. I know I have won prizes without signing up for anything. I enter about 200 sweeps a day. That pretty much covers the prizes I want or need.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

Some sweepers say they enter 500-1000 entries and win often.

I only enter for those sweeps I can use or need (cash!!), home improvement, cars etc. Kikkoman was easy and fun and I won tongs, which are always useful. I may only have a total of 30-40 sweeps that are entered on a daily basis.

On the other hand, I don't win very often either so they are correct with the ratio of entries to wins.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

Same, enter things I like or would make nice gifts. Right now not entering the travel contests. I would love to travel but know it would be tough to get away at this time, although sometimes I like the other prizes they offer.
Opt in for the newsletters sometimes if I think I may enjoy the site, some of them have monthly drawings. There is no way to make your odds better than entering everyday as far as I can tell. Some of these I've entered for over a year many times and never won..but maybe this time! I enter, dream a little (ooo..wouldn't that be nice) then forget about it. :)
Sometimes I think of it this way..If no one entered then the sponsors wouldn't bother and there would be no sweepstakes to enter. So if I enter them along with everyone else, the excitement of the sweeps continue and even if I don't win in a way was helping someone else win. The sponsors get to continue sharing their products and making fans. And just once in awhile my name comes up a winner!

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

There are strict laws in every state regulating sweepstakes. So no one running a contest/sweepstakes can just do what they want especially when it comes to picking winners! :) Everyone has an equal chance of winning no matter what.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

Yes! I am very, very picky. I only enter sweepstakes that I want to win or need, so you are looking at 20 a day plus or minus a few (some ending, others beginning). I am happy if I only add one new sweep to play a day. This is probably why I do not win, but it gives others an opportunity to win what they want. I also subscribe to newsletters as they often offer coupons and giveaways. Even if I win a coupon I am happy with that. Any little bit helps right now. I just wish more companies would offer coupons for free items rather than so many trips or or small inconsequential stuff especially since so many have lost their jobs and are trying to make ends meet. :sunny:

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

I'm picky too. I work a full time job (one of the lucky ones) so I do sweeps early in the morning before work and at night if I am not doing anything else so I limit myself to 20-30 a day. I mostly enter for electronics, our tv is 20 years old, our good computer is 7, and musical equipment ,my son is very talented so I'm hoping to help him out with better equipment. A few I do for fun, like picking race winners, if they are once a week or less. Haven't won a lot but it has become a sort of hobby for me.
I did win an Epiphone Les Paul guitar last year and gave it to my son for Christmas. The look on his face was worth the time (and taxes) I spent winning it.
And a special thanks to Epiphone, the event that I won tickets for was cancelled but Epiphone still gave out the prizes they had put up so they are obviously a class organization.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

When I first started I only entered BIG prize sweeps... Cars, Cash, etc... Then I started looking at what we could really use around the house. We could use landscaping help, hubby could use tools, I could use home appliances, and some room makeovers...etc... So, I usually enter about 100, MOST days, but usually miss a day a week. In six months I haven't won anything but a couple coupons (nice) a couple coasters from Canadian Mist and a yellow foamy boot and yellow plastic drinking glass from YellaWood... BUT, I still love sweeping as a hobby... I hear people say "Enter and forget it" and that is now my motto. Blessings to all you sweepers..... Karen :blob:

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

I just do not have the time or patience to enter all the sweeps so I guess you can say I am picky. There are also many items that I do not need or want so I skip over those.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

I am one of those that enter 100s of sweeps a day and I do win often. Most of the wins are small, but I have been able to create nice gift baskets to give to friends and family during holidays. There have been very few things I won that I didn't actually have a good use for so I donated them to our local thrift shop where a person who needs it can buy is for 25 cents :sunny: I do work full time but my job is easy and I have plenty of spare time to spend online and the boss doesn't mind.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

I only enter what i want or need. If the prize isn't something that i'm interested in then i don't enter it.
A good portion of the blogs i bypass because there seems to be alot involved in entering them (you have to visit a website, pick out a product that you like, tweet , etc.) It can be very time consuming. Some i do because the prize is something i might want , but some i just bypass,
I don't tweet, so i don't enter the tweet ones.
the instants are my favorite. I like knowing instantly if you've won or not.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

Instant wins are fun and you know you are the winner. Surprisingly delivery people have figured out PDA's and can figure out somtimes if you are notified via email, etc and those packages arriving at your door by surprise is a most blessed gift that got by a few bad delivery people who make it less enjoyable hobby because ya never see them. I got one package because the return address said Security Team at fullfilment etc. Of course it was tattered and had been rambled all around inside the package but I bet I would not have gotten it had it not said Security Team on return address. I will never know what they did take out because the Sweeps didn't mention everything just said a package of prizes. sigh Times are hard.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

I always wonder if you receive everything. Last year i started being notified by email when a prize was being shipped by eprize. It wasn't like that before last year or so.
Instant wins are my favorite. They're just fun.

I agree. I only enter sweeps that interest me, and that have prizes I can use. I don't enter Blog sweeps at all, as they take far too much time to enter, and receiving the prize if you win...can be an effort in futility. As for newsletters...I don't opt-in for them, but if I have to I will. Every month or so, I go through and Unsubscribe myself from unwanted newsletters. Some sweeps require that you accept newsletters to be eligible for the sweeps. Not a big deal to me.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

I only enter for things I want and need......and that I can afford to pay the taxes on. (Which is something many sweeps don't think of, and end up ''passing'' on their win.) :nono:

I hate signing up for newsletters/emails because it junks up my email too much...but I just opt out after the sweep is over.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

I'm picky to a point...but it depends on my work schedule. My hours vary all the time, so on some days I'll enter everything possible, other days I'll just enter the ones I really want to win.

I'll be honest with you....I've won some prizes that I thought "ok, what am I gonna do with this?", but there is always someone I know that will like it. Also, we donate alot of things to fundraisers, such as chinese/silent auctions. So even though I may not need it, it helps raise money for worthy causes.

Re: Are you "picky" in entering sweepstakes?

here's a question for you-do you feel right entering contests or accepting prizes if you don't support the sponsor?for instance i detest cigarettes and cigarette smokers, but had no problem entering the marbolo contests last summer. the reason i'm asking is because there is a local "mega -church" in my area that is having a huge easter weekend give-away(4.5 million dollars worth of prizes!!) all you have to do is show up for church service and they will draw names at every service.the prizes include 15 different cars, flat screen t.v.s,laptops,ipods,bikes,fender gutairs, furniture and so much more.they were all donated by wealthy parishoners of the church.the cars are 2 bmws,a jaguar,an audi,a spyder,2 eclipses a jeep and i can't remember the rest.i am a die-hard atheist, but also a die-hard sweeper,so i don't know what is right.my husband said it is hipocritical of me to go to curch services just to try and win a car,but i know i'll just be kicking myself if i am this close to such a great free contest and don't even attempt to enter. they've been promoting it locally all week, and they keep saying that they hope and wish that the people that walk off with the top prizes are the ones that never go to church and showed up for all the wrong reasons---well that's me so i want that new bmw!!! :)

:if you are an atheist why are you worried? I believe in God and wouldn't do this but if you don't believe in God why do you worry- you won't have to answer for it in the afterlife- or do you have that little spark that says what if there is a God? It is said there are no atheists in foxholes, where are you standing?
