So i looked and the arv is double what i find it listed at on sites, Or do you think the fact it is a branded grill makes it worth more? how can do i go about trying to pay the lower priced taxes? any info will help.

I was notified last week that I won this grill and turned it down because I didn’t want to pay taxes on a $1300 grill that I wouldn’t use much. I thought it was a high MSP price too but I assumed because it was branded that it was priced this way. So disappointing that you finally win something big and have to turn it down because of the taxes.

It dose not say what size it is, but I found a 22" model on the Lifesmart site that is listed at $1299, but you can find them cheaper at some resellers.

thanks, yep hubby and i did some searching. He's glad to get a new grill tho, so still a win win

I was under the impression that you could claim the amount of the item for what you would have to pay for it in your area. Sure, the sponsor can send you a 1099 for the MSRP according to them, but if you see it advertised locally for less, you may be able to claim that amount instead. It helps to have documented proof. For example, if you see three different ADs at local stores for the same item or online on sale, you could print those or copy them to use as proof if its worth your time. However, I'm not a tax professional and you should always seek the advice of a tax expert for the best way to handle it. I've heard of people doing all sorts of things to dispute the value of prizes or claiming less than the ARV.
