Brag and gag

Any of you get these letters at Christmas? I have one family member who sends this letter out every year and it cracks me up cause for the life of me I just don't have that much to brag about. I mean don't get me wrong I am happy for their family and how great everything is but come on let's not brag so much.

My version of this letter would say well this year mom got mad at me again just because I happen to disagree with her and she called me a prostitute (but of course not in that way) said she hated me,I'm not her child and then she pushed me and pulled my hair LOL. Rachel did not spend a night in jail this year and the one great event this year is Leah did have a beautiful wedding.

Point is these letters do tend to gag you.

So I hope you all had a year worth bragging about.

You mean like this one? :sunny:

Dear Friend,
It is that time of year again to share with you our adventures in this journey we call life. 2008 has been another year of magic and wonder...

Lori almost 3, is quite a talker. She continues to amaze the professors at the University with her intuition in foreign languages. It was fun for her to serve as Official Translator for Warren Christopher at the Bosnian-Serbian Peace Talks. She intends to spend this Holiday transcribing War and Peace into Arabic and Cantonese.

Chris, now 5, is growing in leaps and bounds. When he got his first set of building blocks he seemed quite interested in large buildings. This year he designed his first skyscraper and ground was broken in Hong Kong for the new "Little Man" Towers. It is great to have a budding architect at home as he made a new addition to the house and a wonderful gazebo for our garden. Martha Stewart will be filming her next show here in April.

Betsy had a very busy year. In between her work as President of the American Cancer Society and Senior Partner of Goldman Sachs, she introduced a line of children's novels and hand made active-wear. She remains occupied with the children and has introduced them to Yoga and power walking this year. We are particularly proud of Mom as a starting forward representing the United States in the World Cup.

Dave was immersed with his Graduate School studies, and managed to co-author a paper on Multidimensional Customer Attribute Analysis by Conjoint Survey and accept a Nobel Prize for his discoveries in Quantum Physics. Along the way Dave took three startups through their IPO. We are proud of his work serving on the Board of Directors of IBM, Coca-Cola, and Walt Disney. Dad was also active with the kids teaching Lauren Ballet and helping to lower Chris' handicap to 5. We were able to squeeze a little traveling in this year. We started in Aspen, went to Belarus, the Congo, Denmark, Ethiopia, the Falklands, Greenland, Holland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Venezuela, and Zaire. Our trip sailing our new boat around the world was a great experience for the kids, we learned to communicate with Dolphins and discovered a new region of deep water volcanoes.

And Sergeant, our German shepherd, learned to speak. Latin. Other than that, it was a very quiet year. So from our household to yours, all the Blessings of the Season and may your New Year be prosperous. We found out yesterday that we won the $150 Million Powerball Lottery.

The Wannabes,
Betsy, Dave, Chris & Lori

Hey! Where did you get a copy of my Christmas letter??? I haven't sent those out yet!!

Oh Oh - guilty again!
I must be the biggest nerd!

Don't feel bad. I have done it in the past also. I didn't even get Christmas cards out this year though, so I feel really bad. What is today? I might could still get some out, but I doubt it!

I call them the "Year in Review" letters. We don't have anyone right now sending them to us, but we do have one that sends us the "Year in Review Pictures" of their three-year-old all miniaturized, fuzzy, and squashed together on the front of the Christmas card (she's also on the return address label). She also does this for invitations and whatever other event/occasion she can think of.

We just laugh our butts off everytime we get one of these.

Yep, we have a couple of those in our family. I am happy for them however sometimes I feel like they forget how crappy of a year I have had!

But 2009 is bound to be better!!!

I've wondered if the people who write these letters actually realize how they sound. Z I certainly didn't mean to offend you so please accept my apology if I have but this family member of mine who does this is just a little nauseating and he has the same mother I do lol.

Don't worry I am thick skinned.
I forwent the letters one year, but got lots of complaints.
People were looking forward to them.
Maybe it is because the letters are short - one or two sentences per family member and filled with photos.

The way I look at it if you don't like it - just throw it away unread!
Wishing you all the best for this super Holiday Season!

I have a relative that sends those letters too. With her though, the letters only ever cover three topics: vacation, golf scores, and injury/illness. Mix and match and you have this year's letter:

Spent a wonderful week in Acapulco...Kay lowered her handicap by another point...cut vacation short because Bee fell in the lobby and sprained her wrist...fantastic new golf course we had to try...Bee has become a real whiz with a 9 iron...beautiful weather...recovering from a short bout of the flu...off to hit the links... Merry Christmas!

 I could handle short but his are a whole page worth and trust me you would gag at the amount of bragging. Wishing you all the best also.

ok this is wierd.
But I wonder what the people that commited crimes this year. I wonder what thier christmas lists would say.

I use to receive them but, most of my family and I stopped talking years ago (Long story, lot's of dysfunction).

I considered making newsletters for my parents and siblings since they live far away now and love updates but, I figure there is always myspace for that, lol.
