Last night in class my instructor told us that there are (3) programs up for being deleted.... Ours is one of the (3)..

I am very upset and shocked... We all are (students)... This has been a very challenging program to take on and sooo much time already invested... It's actually heart breaking... The problem is, if the program is going to be deleted

  • [li]where do we continue the same education?
    where do we find the college where the same "theory" is being taught?
    Will all of our training that we've received so far be all for nothing?
    This program has been offered and taught for years at this particular college, why now?[/li]

We have to sit in front of the Board March 14th and on that day it will be decided if we stay or if we are being "done away with"...
I don't understand.... This career gives us a chance to have things we wouldn't have if we didn't learn and get ceritified... We (students) would have the opportunity to buy houses on our own, support our families and even put our children through schooling to receive higher educations, etc.... it's a proven fact, every student that has graduated from the class in pass 5 years ARE WORKING and making great money....Letters have been pouring in to confirm this....

This is sooooooo scary for us (students)... All we wanted to do was make a better life and now it seems like it's all being flushed down the toilet over (1) person's final decision..... :cry: :cry:
 
So sorry to hear that news. I'm sure it must have been a shock to hear it after all your hard work. Should they decide to drop it, they should tell you where you can go to finish.
I'm sure it's all a numbers game. If they don't have enough students to support a class that they offer then they drop it.
Get as many people as you can to attend the board meeting. Also get as many as you can to speak at the board meeting. You may need to check to see if they need to call to be put on the agenda to comment before the meeting takes place. Have them tell what this class has meant to you and the hardships it would cause to drop it. In today's economy they need to keep classes that will put people to work after graduating. This seems to be one of them.
Don't give up without a fight. Letters to the editor in your local paper could also be beneficial. Just be sure you don't slam the school as that will not be helping your cause.
Hang in there girl! We all know that you do have the strength and fortitude to make it through this battle.
 
Many times, with enough support, they will let currently enrolled students finish their studies, but they won't accept new students. I hope that this would be the worst scenario for you.

Champ, you are a survivor. No matter what, you will find a way to finish and soar to new heights. Don't worry until you know what is happening. Then, take the information you have and make things right for your family.

You'll be o.k. It's a speed bump, not a mountain. Start looking now for another program, just in case. You may want to apply so that you don't have to worry about a gap in schooling. We all know a gap makes it harder to go back to.

Hope things work out for the best. No matter what, you will make the best of your situation. Remember. Take a step back. Look at the situation. Get a new perspective and do what you have to do. I know you can do it. I've seen you do it.

So far the instructors and the students have put together a VERY strong argument... I will keep all posted on the outcome next month...
 
thank you Cin... I really want to continue my education with this school.... it is just very scary though for us students and the instructors that want to keep this occupation alive......
 
Yesterday was the BIG meeting to determine what will happen with this profession.... I am waiting to hear from my instructor. Will keep you guys posted...
 
Just talked to a student that took the CA state exam (and passed!!). He also went to my school and just graduated in Feb. He went to the board meeting and here is what he told me:

It went well. There is going to be another meeting next week with 30 minutes more of public discussion, followed by 60 minutes of deliberation by the senate. Apparently they will then vote and we will find out the outcome.

Thanks to everyone who spoke. We had at least 20 speakers and there were several deposition reporters.

Other than the vice-president of instruction, Dave Fishbaugh, who was presenting the case to discontinue the program, everyone spoke in favor of court reporting. It was very interesting to hear everyone's stories and their qualifications. It's amazing how many people with master's and other degrees and how many people worked at companies such as Sun Microsystems and NASA before being laid off and finding court reporting.

Evidence was definitely on our side. I hope the Academic Senate sees that.

Still have to cross our fingers it looks like, but on the other hand seems like we had some excellent back-up supporting our stand...will keep you guys posted after the next meeting.....

I will pray for you and if you need any online support I will write emails. ROFL (the reason I do not win with 2000flushes.WD40, Conagra,etc.) But you must word it for me sincerely as I am not the best writer. Wish I could erase those emails I made a mistake contest sheesh. I do not do many IWG's because of the frustration that made me put fingers to typing. I learned my lesson on that one. message me if I can help?
