I just wanted to share my story with you. I have never won anything big, so when on Thursday I received an email from Spin Magazine that I was their grand prize winner of a trip to Spain, tent and 2 Nokia phones I was absolutely thrilled. ARV was over $4,500. The only problem was that there was a wrong first name. Other info was correct. I emailed them to let them know about the error, they kept me waiting 4 days for the response and finally today I got the following email:

“After reviewing all of the entries, it looks like your last name and email address were mistakenly paired with the first name of the choice Grand Prize winner due to a formatting error. Over the weekend, we’ve gone through the entries to ensure that each entry has been downloaded correctly and without error, and will re-chose a winner from the second batch of confirmed and corrected entries”

I am so disappointed and sad, I was really looking forward to this trip. I lost faith that I will ever win anything big ( and actually get it) and don’t really feel like sweeping anymore…

Has anything like this happened to anybody? I need some words of encouragement. You guys are the best here on SA.

I'm so very sorry that happened to you, but DON'T despair...



Sweeping is a hobby that is all about timing. Especially for those elusive instants! IF you enter at the exact right moment, you will win. If not? Sad to say you won't. But I assure you - it's nothing personal, and those who win a lot don't have any "secrets" - they are just consistent, persistent, and patient.

The sweepers credo? Enter and forget it. Always be happy for those that win - even when they win "your" prize - and be positive you will win.

Reminding myself of the sweepers credo is how I keep my positive attitude, and my sanity.

I really believe that if you go into it thinking you can't win, well, you'll MAKE yourself right so often you'll start believing it!!! I truly do believe you have to have a positive attitude - don't get hung up on what others are doing - just focus on entering, then move on to something else - like posting so we can get to know you!!!

Hang in there - and enter, enter, enter - you'll be posting a win before you know it!!! And remember - every day brings new opportunities to win!!!
 
They offered me tickets to a music festival in my hometown. I would not be able to use them though, I will be out of town then.

OK, at least they tried, I guess. :)

Really do try to shake it off zonabogusia - my son missed a $500 win by missing the deadline {CliffsNotes} so I DO get it - but he JUST won another prize worth $500 because he kept entering!!! :headbang:
 
:wave:Wow! I know you must feel just terrible. I haven't had that happen thank God. Hopefully, you can shake it off after a day or two and move on. I've noticed you do win alot of IW's...same here but nothing over $500. Guess we should be happy with those, I have read some post where some sweepers never win anything. Let's count our blessings and keep on sweeping...there's many other bigger and better trips to win!!! "SPIN MAGAZINE WHO!!!"

Don't hold such a value on any prize. It holds no bearing on your life. I lost out on a $5,000 plasma television due to the affidavit not getting back in time due to a sudden separation from my ex. I never gave it a second thought. Computers don't operate 100% at all times, and glitches do happen. This is just another aspect of sweeping.

I had someone call once saying that I was the grand prize winner of a contest and five minutes later they called back and said I was a winner but not the grand prize winner. They had a new girl working and she made a mistake. My prize was still two certificates for a free night at any radisson in the U.S. I had to chalk it up to the fact that everyone makes mistakes. Disappointed, oh yeah, but things happen. It wasn't a trip to Spain though.
 
What a bummer! You would think they would go ahead & give the the prize since they probbably didn't contact the other person :crazytongue:

Besides... don't you go by that other 1st name? :laughing: and yours was 2/3 - the other person just had the right 1st name :whistle:

Here's to you winning something really good in the near future. You really deserve it after that! :cheers:
 
Thanks guys! I feel much better. I'm just gonna get over it and keep on sweeping. it really helped to share this story with you guys - nobody will understand like a fellow SA member! Thanks again!

BTW - I emailed Spin to let them know that I will accept the consolation prize, but haven't heard back from them.
 
It gets so tiring when the wins are far and few between. I read where people win cars like they fall out of the sky and trips and so much good stuff and I am taking a break doing just a few a day till I can either find reason to continue and a renewed enthusiasm or quit it all together. After a year I think I am really unlucky at this. I must be the unluckiest person sweeping after a solid year. Ya know I feel like kicking myself for being so unlucky. I try and I try and I tell myself this is going to be something great one day but then sometimes I think I am just too opinionated and not marketing material or sumpin is very wrong with me.... sigh .....I am depressed for you and me. Nite. I know I will dream of winning a car and of course tomorrow I will wake up and you know the rest of the story...I sure miss that guy. I cant remember his name but I think we lost a jewel when we lost him. Sorry I just read where you want encouragement I just do not have it in me tonight. My latest win is my name on the Cheerios car ROFL this Sat. so everybody please watch it rush by with me and 3,299 other names on it. No monetary prize assc with it. ROFL I am famous tho!
 
I am very sorry for your dissapointment but never give up and don,t stop doing your sweeps it,s only a matter of time and you will win again I,m sure of that I,ve won several times and some prizes never came but I keep going and so should you keep your head up
