eBay Sellers Strike Feb 18th-25th PLEASE JOIN US!

I know that many sweepers sell their prizes on eBay.

We are asking all eBay buyers and sellers to refrain from buying or listing any items on eBay from Feb 18-25th.
We (eBay Sellers) are organizing on the eBay Sellers Central Discussion Forum and also on Facebook.

We are protesting eBay's new Paypal policy (which will affect all sellers) that will require 21 day holds be put on sellers' Paypal accounts for each transaction. In other words, sellers must ship items, but wait three weeks before receiving the money from Paypal and all sellers will be required to have Paypal as their form of payment.

Please stand in solidarity, shoulder-to-shoulder, with the little sellers on eBay that are being run off from the site by the new CEO.

See some of the discussion here:

Pass the strike news on to any and all you know!

Wow! I didn't know that they were going to force paypal ~ I use it, but that just isn't right!!! I used postal money orders forever! I am with you ~ there should be other options for everyone!!

Here is some more information on the horrible new policies that eBay is instituting:

Nearly every single seller will fall under the 21 day Paypal hold and here's why:
by "selling in a high risk category" - gift certificates, cell phones, computers, video games, consumer electronics, this will put your money in the hold

or

"dissatisfied customers"
A) if any buyer gives you a 1 or 2 stars on any of your Detailed Seller Ratings, they are considered dissatisfied and your money is in the hold because you will have to have over TWENTY 5-Star ratings to overcome this within a 30 day period, as set forth by the new rules.
B) A single neutral or negative feedback will take how many positives to overcome within the 30 day time period and meet the 95 percent satisfied threshold? Therefore, your money will be in the hold.

Also, if you haven't had 100 or more positive feedbacks in the past 12 mos., they will put your buyers payments in the hold.

Let's not forget that they have also instituted the ridiculous notion that if eBay suspects that a buyer may end up dissatisfied, they will put your money in the hold. I guess they will be looking in a crystal ball on that one.

AND if any of the above happens to you, you can only accept Paypal as your form of payment, no checks, no money orders.

They are using these new rules to generate revenue from your money by earning interest on it while they hold it hostage for 21 days in Paypal and requiring you to take Paypal. eBay owns Paypal and I'm sure the Department of Justice will be looking into their monopoly practices.

They have also eliminated the ability for sellers to leave buyers anything other than positive feedback, so what's the point of leaving it at all?

They have also raised final value fees, so even with the lower insertion fees and free upgrades, a $25.00 item will now net eBay an additional 83 cents from the sellers pocket.

This is all an attempt to rid us little guys from eBay because the CEO says he is tired of eBay looking like a flea market.

Please support the hard-working little sellers with the unique and rare little widgets or eBay will soon resemble one of those horrible re-vamped flea markets, full of cheap chinese junk and no more grannies' attic treasures.

Not to mention how safe the paypal security is. Heck, my account was hacked and I never use the thing. :cussing:

The bright side, maybe someone will start a new internet auction company to rival and surpass e-bay. Looks like another big business forgeting their roots!

Hope you win this one. I'm behind you.

I was all excited at first that they were lowering the insertion fee and giving free gallery, then i looked at how much they were increasing the final sale.

I think the seller's leaving only positive feedback to buyers should only apply to "Buy it Now" items. If they buy it immediately, then yes you should only leave good feedback, but, if it is an auction item , and the buyer , bids on an item, and winds up not paying you, then they should definitely get bad feedback. that doesn't make any sense.

the 21 day Paypal thing, this is the first I'm hearing of this issue.
as a seller, are they trying to say you can only use Paypal in the future?

"This is all an attempt to rid us little guys from eBay because the CEO says he is tired of eBay looking like a flea market."

Absolute foolishness. eBay looks like a cheap flea market because of the sheer number of scheisters out there who are offering second-hand and drop-ship electronics for $1.00 apiece, then charge $600.00 for shipping. I have YET to see the CEO take any kind of a firm stand on that kind of nonsense. It is ridiculous that they want to turn eBay into a place for big sellers, when it's the little guys and their unique and fair-priced merchandise that made eBay into the Internet Giant that it is today.

If I were still selling on eBay, I would participate in this strike. This is ridiculous.

I posted a few times on the ebay message boards about this. I am done selling. Between the awful feedback policy (new), paypal issues and the price changes? They can take my account and shove it. I have been there many years, these changes take the cake.

i don't know everything about this change but they are lowering LISTING fees so it's less risky to list in the event that your item doesn't sell. THey still need to make money and therefore they are increasing the fees out of the final cost (only if the item sells). I think this is completly reasonable.

I have been an Ebay user for 7 years. I have been a buyer and seller and have always had fairly good experiences. (with one exception where an item was damaged during shipping) I have used paypal for a long time as well and have also never had trouble. I can only speak from my experience but i just want to take a little stand for ebay althogh I do aknowledge it's not perfect.

(ducking and preparing for "flame throwers")

thanks for posting that article. it was very interesting.

they said this was eventually going to happen, there were going to be places eventually that would seriously start competing with Ebay.

I have never sold anything on ebay but love to buy  I understand why sellers are ticked off but as a buyer I have a problem with sellers who wont leave feedback till I do. I pay as soon as I win. immediately. But will they leave feedback?NO!!!! Thats not the way it should be.

Your absolutely right!

If a buyer pays me right away, and everything is cleared and ok. I leave positive feedback right away.I don't wait until the buyer has left feedback.
I feel once the buyer bids and pays right away they are a great customer!

I have 6 items right now im waiting on. all paid right after winning. not a single seller has left feedback. two sent messages saying they would once I left feedback for them. Thats a load of crap! So, If I have to wait two weeks to get my item and its not what advertised and I leave negative feedback they will do the same for me even though they were paid within a couple of minutes of me winning. not right! :cussing:

I wish all sellers were like you thumbelina.

:cussing: That disgusts me, too! You pay right away and have done your part, but they are going to (maybe) leave feedback only after you say something good about them! What a farce! And 3/4 of the time after you have done your part they don't even bother to leave you a feedback! :cussing:

I'm a seller. when someone buys an item from me, I mail it out the very next day and I send them a confirmation email letting them know that it was shipped out and how it went out (priority, media, etc.). my buyers always write back, "thanks for letting me know the item was shipped, that is very professional of you." and then they leave great feedback. I have 100% positive feedback.

before christmas, I bought an item on Dec. 23(maybe before that), the seller didn't wind up shipping out (i didn't know at the time) until Jan. 3, and I emailed her a couple of times asking if my item was shipped, she never responded to any of my emails. I waited. I waited. I didn't receive the item until almost 1 month later. I thought that was so unprofessional. at least email the customer and let them know the status of the order. why the shipping was delayed..

I'm the exact same way. If they pay immediately I leave feedback immediately. I always write to let them know that I recieved the payment and thank them for being so prompt. I also inform them that the item will ship the very next day and feedback will be left asap and ask that they do the same once they get their item and are satisfied with it. If there is an issue or questions I want them to contact me first so I can resolve it. And I'm not so sure why they treat the big sellers so great. Honestly, every problem I've ever had with a seller is someone who's selling in volume. It seems they have a hard time keeping track of their sales and hardly ever communicate well. I'm going to try Yahoo for a while I guess. I tries Overstock but that seems more like a 'new item' auction place. Anyone have any other suggestions for a new auction site?

I've never spent much time on there, but I saw that Bidz was listed on the PrizeWish Shop and Win... you might look on there.
