Fraud? Someone in voting contest increases votes by 245 votes in 1 hr....

Hello everybody,

I have entered a photo contest with a chicken photo here:

(currently on page 9, from there it goes up if there are more entries) here (I have bookmarked the link on my PC for my convenience)

Someone increases the vote ## for his/her entry by up to 245 votes per hour, but not one more vote for the next 23 hrs. That seems not right and I have already filed a complain. If so, I only want to win by "FAIR PLAY", if I cannot win that way, so be it. I do have friends and family voting on it, plus a decent circle of social network, but is it worth to bother friendship and family with that if there is possibly fraud involved?

What do you think about this? What would you do?

They have themselves and 65 friends entering for them around the clock ... them and their friends don't have a life ... or ethics. :laughing: (despite that that is what the rules might allow)

What would you do?

Same as I do now: not entering these stupid "popularity" or "fastest fill-the-form" voting contests. No matter what happens I don't have enough friends or time to win one of these stupid things.

If it upsets you ... don't enter them.

Any fraudulent voting will be picked up at the end when the sponsor checks the entries.

Also, another site puts up banners on their sweepstakes page to get their members to vote for another member; and they all band together like wolves to make sure their member wins and no other member from another site has a chance. Unfortunately, a few of their members do come here to solicit votes. They do return the favor, but they don't participate in this site other than to get votes.

Being disgusted with these types of contest just for this reason, I no longer enter them and I don't vote--I don't participate at all.

Makes sense. I usually do not enter sweepstakes at all. So this is all new to me.

I reported it to the newspaper and tonight they have put "captcha codes" in to fill in before you can save the vote and the vote will be counted. Hope that helps. The results were changing again every time I hit the refresh button this afternoon for that one entry over and over again for about 1 hr and 0 votes since than, so I do not think that this contestant has 65 friends. I think his/her life is just creating PC programs which will allow to do things like that.

Wow, we get to see the good, the bad and the ugly! It is unfortunate that these things do exist and people have had frustrating unfair experiences.

As far as voting here at SA, I still think it is possible to take a positive approach and try to vote for bona fide members. I am glad to see some of our members win this way, and I'm sure I've voted for more than a few people who have just showed up for votes, but, oh, well! I try to be supportive when I have time.
