Going to attempt to turn a brown thumb green

I am terrible at keeping plants and flowers alive but, I am ready to dive in and try. I have 16lbs of potting soil, a box of wild flower seeds and 2 different colors of gladiolas to plant. I have 3 pots for planting as well. I can't start yet until the weather is better.

Dh doesn't think I could do it, lol. Nice support system! I need to get a couple gardening shovels, gloves and whatever those little sticks are to help feed your plants. This is just a test, I plan to try and grow other things after the spring as well such as veggies and fruits, and rose bushes.

My kids even have a cup each that came with sunflower seeds and watermelon seeds.

Anyone else going to try to turn a brown thumb green this year?

Not me man! I can't do it ~ if it can't take care of itself it is out of luck ~ lol!!! I do good to keep the kids, hubby, and animals alive!!!

It will be so depressing if I can't do it, especially if I cannot keep wildflowers alive! I told dh that I will plant a few in one of the pots and then plant the rest in the yard. If it's not human or an animal as you posted? It has no future because, I will indeed kill it somehow. :nono:

I tried so hard with a cactus a few years a go ~ how can you kill a cactus???? I don't know but I did it ~ lol!! I think I would kill a weed if I was trying to grow them!

Jimmie keeps on telling me that I just don't put enough "effort" into it ~ ha! I keep on trying ~ I think that might be my problem ~ I worry them to death!!

A cactus? You killed a cactus? Where were you when I was trying to kill a huge cactus on purpose and couldn't do it?! That thing was evil, it shot the needles at you, I kid you not. We tried to kill it, took over a year and the needles were still around when the plant was gone. What a mess.

My kids planted they're stuff today, they are in the window until they sprout and then suppose to plant them outside. Poor kids, I hope I can at least keep those alive!

Lidarkside, thanks for the link! I will have to check it out. I would really like to start growing plants, flowers and foods.

I get most of my plants fromt the grocery store  I've been saving all my pomegranate seeds and sticking them in pots, now I have 80 zillion little pomegranates to set out when spring comes. Some of them are getting pretty big, too! The Pom Wonderfulls sprout perfectly.
We also have good luck with rosemary. Two of our rosemary "bushes" are bigger than me, and we have 10 or 15 shoots rooted and ready to plant. Persimmons are something else you can buy at the store, eat and then sprout the seed. They make a beautiful tree. And ginger, from the store, grows into a nice dark green plant with amazing perfumed white blossoms that look like orchids. Sweet potatoes make a vine with blossoms like big morning glories.

Not bragging, but I have a very green thumb. Yrs. ago I didn`t and watered way too often.

Just one word of advice I received when planting seeds...do not fertiize them! Wait until they are established as plants.

Also, I have had wonderful luck with planting plants in miracle grow potting soil in my window boxes.

I may have been witnessed a time or two talking to my plants also! (-:

Good Luck!!
There`s wonderful info on the internet, one of my favorite sites is: http://www.gardenweb.com/

Tip on the wild flower seeds . They are supposed to have a freeze on them before thawing and planting. That is always what my mother did. I have a green yard right now but I am fortunate enough to live at the beach. My orange tree is just now putting on its leaves and my flowers are starting to bloom. I did some tommato and jalopenio pepper seed in one of those mini hot houses and they are growin good. I am ready to move inland so I can have a regular garden. Best of luck to all, looking forward to a warm and nice spring!! :sunny: :sunny:

I do alot of gardening, and Miracle Gro potting soil is amazing for your potted plants. It may be a little more
money but it will make your plants grow big and bloom all spring and summer. In pots I grow impatiens, geraniums,
portulacas, all very easy to grow. I also have a big garden where I grow green beans, tomatos, eggplant, hot peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, okra, basil, oregano, and lettuce.
The easiest vegetables to grow are the small cherry tomatos, green beans, lettuce.
If you have alot of room cucumbers and squash are easy too.

Good luck with your gardening!! After years of doing it, I have turned my brown thumb green!! :sunny:

Jimmie does plant a garden and it does really well because I keep my butt out of it! We usually have a big garden and last year it was wonderful!!

The ONLY plant that I have never been able to kill is a YUCA plant. I don't think they die and I swear that they have another plant that blooms on the other side of the earth ~ I have never seen roots so long in my life!!!
