How Does Your Garden Grow

It has been absolutely beautiful here in my little neck 'o the woods the last couple of days and I have spent most of it in my veggie garden. After 2 whole weeks of rain rain rain the sun finally came out and it was warm!

My garden is thriving from all of the showers, unfortunately so are the weeds. After a couple weeks of neglect, the invaders all but took over. I got most of them (I don't think it's humanly possible to get them all) and I am so excited to have fresh vegetables soon! Store bought just is not the same as growing your own from tiny little seeds. They are like my babies, I talk to them while I tend (the neighbors must think I'm a little off). :crazytongue:

I expanded the garden this year, I always plant more than my patch can hold and it ends up looking a bit like a rainforest in miniature by the end of the season. But, instead of having more room, I just planted more... tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, hot peppers (for the hubs), green beans, zucchini, sweet corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkin, ruhbarb, sunflowers, basil, oregano, mint ... I just couldn't resist.

So, how does your garden grow? With silver bells and cockle-shells, and pretty maids all in a row?

If I was taking care of it it would be covered in weeds, dead or both. I have a black thumb. want a plant to die? let me touch it and the job is done. My husband has a couple of plants and im not allowed anywhere near them. He wont even let me water them. :nono:

We used to have a beautiful garden when we lived in IL, with herbs, and so many more things (in fact when we were just there last month the sage and thyme have come back beautifully as have the chives!) In NY, we decided to make a raised bed garden this year in our rental house and I tried to go small, but ended up planting more than I should have. It's just so fun when the kids get involved, too. Our potato plants are huge now, and our tomatoes are getting really tall.

The beans and peas are doing great, too. My favorite plant of all, each year, is our basil because I love basil pesto and we usually have enough that I can make and freeze pesto sauce for the whole winter.

We have broccoli, cucumbers, peppers, carrots, potatoes, snap peas, green beans, basil (cinnamon and lemon), and are planning to plant one more thing, but can't decide what.

We're in upstate NY, so start late here, too. I also talk to my little seedlings, but I think the neighbors don't notice because my kids are with me, so they must think I am talking to them. The cutest thing is to hear my 3 year old encouraging a broccoli plant to grow!

I don't have a garden this year but I did get one of those tomato hanging things and I've got tomatoes. I love a garden and agree nothing like fresh.
